Sony has announced its latest full HD 3D home cinema projector, the VPL-HW50ES. The VPL-HW50ES utilizes an adapted version of ‘Reality Creation’ technology which was developed for the Sony's VPL-VW1000ES 4K home cinema projector. The technology ‘Reality Creation’ employs an originally developed digital signal processing algorithm to restore any information lost when packaging from original content to disc, recreating high quality, color-rich, full HD images.

Quote:
“The earlier launch of the VPL-HW30ES set a high standard for the home projection market last year. With the announcement of the VPL-HW50ES, we’re confident that Sony has raised that bar again, setting a new benchmark for home cinema projection,” said Mr. Satoru Munetaka, Deputy General Manager, Professional Solution Division, Sony India “ HW50ES has an “Reality Creation “function using Sony unique algorism technology to reproduce “real HD picture”. We are sure end user can enjoy true vivid and crisp picture than ever.

The VPL-HW50ES has a number of functionality upgrades that make it more user-friendly. These include a built-in 3D sync transmitter, a wider lens shift that makes its vertical shift range become +/- 71 per cent and whisper-quiet fan noise suppressed to a mere 21dB, claims the official statement. It also has a high contrast ratio of 4000:1 for color reproduction and 12-bit 3D gamma correction. Sony claims that it achieves uniform image color and brightness that extends right to the corners of the screen.

I think I want it.

MSRP?
$3999

Is the 1700 ANSI lumens likely to be a realistic number? I have a real issue with dark 3D and for that matter 2D. Also, I have a 2.35:1 lens & sled - will it accomodate?

Check out the review here

I'd say 1000 Lumens on a calibrated image is pretty good.

EDIT: The HW50ES will also accept an A-lens

It's amazing how good looking projectors have gotten! I remember back in the day that projectors had the worst quality and the only reason why people bought them was because they wanted a big screen. Now they're identical to to my Samsung LCD tv.

Really love the look of Sony's projectors.

How will it compare to the Jvc x-55? I need to buy one of these two.

Still using the VPL-85 and love it, the whole 3D I don't care for, but for this price which will most likely come in around $3500 will be a great one. I am wondering if they are still using the same Chief Mount? I hope so. ..
