I agree. HTTYD is one of my favorite movies and as much as I enjoyed Brave, it is not as good movie wise as HTTYD. I do think they would make a fun double feature though.

Glad I am not the only one who felt that way about the audio. smile.gif I think all of us talked about this in the old audio thread at one point.......speaking of which, what happened to that thread? We were all pretty active there at one point. confused.gif

I got this from Netflix last week and I loved it. I'd put it up there with my favorite Pixar movies. To say that Disney should have handled it is an absolute insult to what Pixar did with this film. It's not a princess story. In fact, it's the complete opposite of any princess story you've seen, or probably ever will see from Disney Animation. It's much more akin to Miyazaki's films. I was going to post a long diatribe about it, but someone beat me to it and covers the main points here.

Thanks for linking that fantastic article! The author of that write up has many very interesting points that make sense and really show Brave in a much deeper light. I already liked this movie quite a bit, but reading that elevates my appreciation for it even more and just reaffirms my opinion that this is truly Pixar worthy and much more than just another princess story.

I picked this one up on 3D without hesitation. Loved it in the theater. When I seen it on opening weekend I was fortunate enough to view it in a theater with Dolby Atmos. It was the finest audio I had ever heard in my life. 5 screen channels and overhead speakers made all the difference. BRAVO to BRAVE!!!

Your welcome. I'm just glad it's not me on the other side of the argument. lol

If anyone's looking to pick this up, it'll be on sale on amazon Thursday and Monday for $9 (at a certain time). I'll be getting it as well.

Hi, does it skip in the same place every time? Lots of people have reported audio drops in this one. Check out the last few pages of the Oppo 93 thread and the Brave thread in the software forum for more info. I have never had an audio skip in my setup, but did with Brave. There are theories as to why this is happening which you can read more about in the threads I mentioned.

Watched Brave a few days ago and had no issues at all. The audio mix was fantastic. I use an old Panasonic DMP-BD35 player.

Greetings,

I reviewed it using both my Oppo BDP-103 and Panasonic DMP-BD310 and had zero problems with the audio.

Just saw this last night... Man is this a beautiful movie! I have no idea why people would bring it down to "a good Disney movie but not for PIXAR standards," I thought it was and is awesome, a lot of fun! The 3D is great and the imagery is perfect. It still surprises me how I forget I'm watching a CGI animated movie with PIXAR. A must-have all the way! cool.gif

Re the sound glitch, my 3D disc did do that in Dolby TrueHD 7.1 near the beginning, a bit of trouble visually as well. I rewinded and it played back fine the second time, no problems after that. My BD player is an LG cheapo one, and it has given me problems with some movies, so I no longer pay too much attention to it since I thought that would get fixed with higher-end gear which I would not get until my current one dies on me. An example of a 3D movie with a similar problem is Kung Fu Panda 2, also at the beginning. I found that by pausing the movie right when it's starting and giving it time (to buffer content?)---maybe 2 minutes---helps and most of the time fixes this.

This movie has TrueHD 7.1, TrueHD 5.1, a 2.0 track with enhanced sound characteristics, French 7.1 (TrueHD also?) and 5.1, Spanish 5.1. Maybe all this makes BD players sweat more than usual? And that's just speaking of sound, the quality of video on this one has to be more demanding to reproduce(?).

Speaking of sound, that D-TrueHD 7-1 track is bliss!

This problem has been happening on various brands/combos of equipment including the Oppo players (I am using the 93). It also might play perfect one watch, then the next you could have a drop which some have reported as well. Many like myself who have never had any drops have had one with this particular title as well. Who knows. Some suspect that it has to do with how Disney is authoring the disc in an attempt to prevent piracy. Many have also reported that letting the player decode and sending out as PCM may solve the issue.

Having said all that, if you are getting a drop in the exact same place EVERY time, that is probably a different issue since the issue described above is very inconsistent and not repeatable commonly. Try swapping out your HDMI cable if this is a repeatable thing, or a different player if you have one and see if that solves it (again though only if it is repeatable).

Just read it. Awesome article. A true must-read. I feel I sensed all or most of it after watching it but could never even remotely put it to words, less even to the extent the author does so here. My middle child is my only daughter (two sons at the ends), and this is exactly what she and her mom (and my wife) need to see TOGETHER. Thank you PIXAR! It came at the right time for us.

I let my Panasonic player decode the audio and send it out as PCM.

I watched the movie for the second time tonight after a long hiatus. It really resonated more the second time, so I came back here to make a comment and caught the quoted comments above. Now I have less to write, since the referenced article does such an articulate and wonderful job.

Not only does this movie look spectacular and sound exceptional, but it has a storyline that's compelling, throughout-provoking, and deep. I'm glad we're all free to form our own opinions on these things. For me, Brave is one of Pixar's absolute best.

I agree I really enjoy this one. The audio is superb.

Rented "Brave" bluray from Netflix and had problems with the Dolby HD soundtrack. Audio would stutter and sputter or drop out. This is the 2nd recent Dolby HD issue recently. Funny I am having no problems with DTS MA bluray discs. To bypass the problem I set my LG BD300 to PCM Multi (instead of bit stream pass through). Unfortunately, the D/A in the player is not as good as by D/A in my Denon A100 AVR. frown.gif
I'm thinking there is a trend here with recent Dolby HD discs. (The other problematic disc is Total Recall 2012). I am continuing to monitor and see if the trend continues. No software update yet from LG.

I have heard some people having issues with certain films when having their player set to bitstream output. I have always set my Panasonic player to decode the sound and just pass it to the AVR. I have never had any issues.

I have the same audio stuttering problem. Oppo BDP-83 and Onkyo TX-NR 5007.

I complained to Disney, this was their 1st reply. No additional follow-up after I provided the additional information they asked for.
