If its any help, I am unaware of any bad sounding Tannoy speakers, if they are in good shape. The best speakers in the world can have hidden damage in the form of burnt out crossovers and drivers.
If you are being offered them used by a private seller, and don't have anybody to check them out or repair them for you, then you would appear to be quite literally on your own.
