Send it for repair. Don't tell about upgrade, just say that that it suddenly stopped working.

If you upgraded equipment in warranty using the manufacturer's firmware upgrade and procedures, then I would think that it is still in warranty.

The only kind of firmware upgrade that would take a piece of equipment out of warranty, would be the third party firmware upgrades that people are applying to their music players. Some of these have bricked a number of players and since it is not vendor software that bricked the machine, its not his problem.

My first attempt to recover from the situation would be to try to run the firmware upgrade again using a clean flash drive and download. Usually these upgrades are accomplished by loading a USB flash drive with downloaded files, and then doing a cold start of the piece of hardware to be upgraded. I'd redo the whole procedure from scratch including fresh downloads. In most cases the piece of equipment need not be fully operational to perform the firmware upgrade.

+1 and be very patient. Give it all the time in the world, and then some.

HAve fun,
