Looks like they poorly deinterlaced the US DVD transfer and augmented it with some contrast boosting and DNR. Even with AVC it is riddled with compression artifacts.

What a wretched release and it seems that it is par the course of the company to use whatever source and 'improve' it.

Eww. Man, it so doesn't pay to be lazy. Especially in this day and age where information like this gets spread like wildfire. No purchase for me.
