Anyone using an extra fan to help cool their DLP'S??

I just got a free Toshiba 62HM196 fixed and man what a super picture. I am amazed at the clarity and depth of the display. I have found as this is my first venture into DLP that it does dispense alot of heat from the lamp area. All the fans are working as I had everything torn apart. My installation is in a corner so there is alot of space behind the TV. I have placed a small circular 110V fan on the floor pointed up to the lamp exhaust area to help push the hot air away faster. Has anyone else with a DLP used an extra fan to help that area stay cool and if so how did you position your fan?? Maybe I should have it blowing into the lamp area but thought I would ask those with more experience. I am certain that the better the lamp is kept cool the longer its life will be. Thanks for any suggestions.

Congrats on getting a nice tv! Can you feel hot air being exhausted out of the nearby vents? If so, then it is properly engineered, and you've taken a good approach to clear that heat with a fan. Did you study the fan design to see (guess) what their approach was to keep things cool? I'd say if all you feel is hot air leaving the tv, and there are no hotspots that you can feel on the tv, the fan design is probably good. I haven't kept up with problems for this series from Toshiba, but I don't think I've seen complaints of heat-related failures. So the cooling design is probably good. If you're still concerned, you can position your fan on the exhaust vent and have it suck hot air out from around the lamp. But again, I think your present approach is good.

My Samsung HLT-6187s has a known issue with the red LED overheating. So, I attached an external USB fan to the side of the TV on the vent, which pulls heat from inside the set:

It is powered by the TV's USB port, so the fan automatically goes on and off with the set. So far so good! Plus this little fan is only like $20 on Amazon, well worth the investment.
