Well, I am in line... I've been here for just over an hour and I'm about #35 in line... we'll see if I get it or not... The first person in line was here at 1:30 am
post #272 of 717
I got in line 20 minutes before opening and got the last Black Friday TV pull tag for the store.
Scored as well - Got to my Sams at around 5:45. Was around 30th in line. I got pull tag #3 at around 6:30 and then went and sat in my car.
Most of everybody else was wanting a Galaxy or the 32" TV.

Rewarding and fun!

The 70" version is now 1500.00 at costco.com. Might return my 65 for the 70 at this price.

Got one! Someone ahead of me in line heard me talking about it. She grabbed 2 and held it for me... I got the 2nd to last one... in total, i saw 2 different people who each had 2 of them.

While I was able to order one on Wednesday night (confirmed shipped today), my Chicago area Sams said they had 10 at the opening, with one still left 45 minutes later. They had about 100 people in line (the first at 12:30 a.m.) and mostly arriving about 90 minutes before the opening for a mobile phone promo.

Would love to hear setting suggestions as we go forward. Has anyone here used the downloadable AVS calibration "disc" on this panel?

I ordered mine online on Wednesday as well. I am also gong to be using the downloadable calibration disc and am interested in feedback. Thanks!

Ordered one online on Wed: logged on 15 min early to make sure I was good to go, and saw that I could buy it already. Did, got the confirmation email, etc.

Late Thursday night (10 ish) I got a cancellation email. They said they would try to find a replacement, but I could try my luck at my local store. I set my alarm for 6, and figured I could drive by and see what the line looked like.

Showed up at Sams this morning at about 6:20, maybe 20 or so in line (hard to tell, as lots of people were holding spots for people in cars). The girl handing out tickets said they had 6, but weren't doing tickets for the TV. if they had, I think they would have all been gone already, and I would have been back in bed 10 minutes later. I asked her if there were 6 people in front of me who had already said they wanted the TV. She said "Um, either 5 or 6, I wasn't counting. It will be close". I think there were more like 8 or 9.

Got to go in the first wave (I think I was #31, after all the people came out of their cars at 6:59) but the guy counting at the door happened to be the guy I had been talking to on Wednesday when I went in to see if I could look at it in person, and we had chatted for a few minutes about the set. He recognized me, even gave me a wink and pointed to where they were, so he let me slide in. Or maybe I was number 30. All I know is that the guy behind me didn't get to go in the first wave.

People in front of me were all stopping to get flat carts to put the TV on. Big mistake.

Got to the TV, there was a small crowd of 8 people (quick head count) already crowded around the pile, but I couldn't tell how many TV's were spoken for (again, because there were couples- so were the 8 or so people wanting 8 TV's or just 4?) Anyhow- of the 6, 4 of them had someone holding them, two didn't yet. There were all the people who had stopped for carts coming up behind me still, so I reached in to get my hand on one. I then realized, why stand here trying to hold it, I'll just drag it out of the pile and be done with it, so I just pulled one of the two unclaimed ones out of the middle of the stack and started dragging it to the registers. I did not take one that anyone else had claimed, nor did I cut in front of anyone; I did have to step on someone's flat cart, but he had one claimed already- he just had his cart blocking the whole side of the pile, waiting for the people picking off the front of the stack to get out of his way. We acknowledged each other, and I made sure I wasn't taking his TV. I thought the whole thing was very civil.

Suddenly, it got ugly behind me- people on both sides of the stack were puling on the same sets, arguing over who was in line in front of whom, yelling. They had been waiting for people to load them off the front of the pile (I say pile but they were standing upright), but after I pulled mine out sideways, everyone else tried to do the same thing. On both sides, at the same time. A lady who had been behind me (because she stopped to get a cart) was trying to get the TV that the guy whose cart I had stepped over was already holding. These people had been chatting like old friends 2 minutes earlier, comrades in the battle against the elements, and suddenly they were ready to start swinging.

I kept walking. Hard. The registers were all open, and the kids working were actually cheering me on (not sure why, really- I guess seeing a 40 year old dude dragging a 65" TV through the store is entertaining). I was the first one to the registers, and the first one out the door (again, I was the last in my wave).

When I left, there was still half a dozen people, 1 TV and a store employee there, trying to resolve who got it. The guy at the door gave me a two big thumbs up, and told me to let him know what I thought of it next time I come in.

A lady who was 50 if she was a day old, who had only gone in to get the iTunes cards actually stopped and helped me load it in my vehicle (I underestimated how heavy it would be), even though it was cold as hell, and she looked like she just wanted to get home.

The whole thing makes me a little ill. I don't think I did anything wrong, but I feel...dirty.

I do feel a little better about my chances in a zombie apocalypse, though.

^^^ Great (sad?) story!! Love your conclusion, too. biggrin.gif

I (well my dad bought it for the house) picked one up today from BJ's for the regular price. I'll try to comment on input lag later tonight with my laptop. I left my Xbox up at school.

The picture to me looks pretty good. You can notice the edge lighting with certain video settings. Right out of the box I booted up the matrix on Bly-ray and fast motion looked pretty bad. Right now I have it one medium smoothness with the cinema filter thing one (forget what it's called, I'm not at the tv right now).

Now hold on, I'm not talking about stampeding over some old lady to get your 32" for 99 bucks ok.

I was at a Sam's about 15 minutes outside of Atlanta.. On Jonesboro Road...

Awesome story - if you didn't take a TV that someone had their hand on, then I'd say you were more enthusiastic/passionate... 'smart' about your Black Friday purchasing strategy. Get it, claim it, pay for it, and get on to the next deal.

I agree that you have a nice conclusion.
So when do people start sharing their settings? I have the tv mounted to my wall and everything, now I just need to test out some ideal settings, and figure out how to dispose of this big a** box without alerting the neighbors and local misfits of my rather large purchase... LOL

Were you able to make adjustments to get the fast motion looking better?

Thanks

Anyone check Costco today to see if this TV had gone down in price?

I know I heard it wasn't going to be lowered but was just wondering if anyone confirmed this today!?!

Thanks smile.gif

What 70" are you referring to? I don't see a 70" TV for 1500 on costco.com

Can anyone do me a favor and let me know what the dimensions of the box for this TV are? I'd like to pick it up today but I need to know if it will fit in my hatchback or if I'll need to rent something larger. Thanks in advance!

Picked this baby up this morning at Sam's and so far so good. Not all that happy about the startup time but I easily get over it once I take a look at the picture. I was originally going in for the 60" but at $998 couldn't pass up the 65". Took about 30 mins to get it on the wall and I'm loving it!!! Can wait until I can watch some football on this thing. The scoreboard at Dallas Stadium got's nothing on this thing!!! Well...that's a tad bit of an exaggeration but I'm digging the t.v.

Maybe it was just the Matrix, but it's fine now. Motion smoothing is off. X-Men on blu-ray looked great. I'm actually hooked up via HDMI now and it looks awesome. Now to figure out some good settings...

Oh and to comment on input lag. It's very minimal. "Game mode" actually works, compared to other TVs I've used in the past and that did absolutely nothing.

The Vizio 70 inch isn't showing up on Costco.com for some reason but at the store it was 1499 today...not sure when the price goes back up.

ok, thanks. sounds like I'll want to turn off smooth motion. I have a M3D651SV coming Monday and there doesn't seem to be much talk about it, but I thought this M650 model would probably be pretty similar.

Thanks

Bought my 65 at Costco yesterday morning. No line, no waiting. . Asked if he would match Sam's price and he told me that Costco will go on sale in a few weeks. Hold the receipt and you can get a refund for the difference. If the 70" goes on sale you can return the 65 for up to 90 days. Why go anywhere else? Comes with 2 year warranty and 3 more for $99.
How do you connect the digital output (1 phone jack) into an old time 2 RCA jack type receiver?

Which one? Online, it doesn't look like they carry the M650VSE, just the one with 3D.
Incidentally, I got an email from Sam's this morning saying they got more of the 65" and if I still wanted to buy it at 998, I could do it with the instructions they'd be sending next week.

Just got back from ours... no 65" Vizios at all (nor 70")...
The M650 VSE. I think they took it off their website for this weekend cause of Sam's. They had it in the store.
