Minerva's Den is a very good, self-contained story in a different part of Rapture that provides a nice epilogue to the whole Rapture storyline. And, if you explore every room of every level and rescue every little sister and do all the gatherings, it will take 5-6 hours to complete. There's also some new weapons, enemies, and plasmid abilities to try out.
I don't think it requires a completed save file of the main Bioshock 2 story (it creates its own save file just for the DLC), but you do need the main game disk or digital download to play it. So if you have a Plus membership, you'd be set.
EDIT: Confirmed. I loaded my disc on a subaccount that had no BS2 save file on it, and I was able to start a new Minerva's Den playthrough. Now to stop myself from playing it right now when I should be working.Edited by Zookster - 12/4/12 at 8:57am
