I wasn't planning on picking up this game but after reading through this thread I changed my mind which is crazy because I already have a huge gaming backlog, but hey I'm a serious gamer I almost got it for the 360 but then read about slow framerate and general poor performance. I did a little research and found out my current PC can actually handle this game so I went out and purchased it through Steam. The game runs quite well with High settings @ 1080p on my Radeon 7750.
Didn't get to play much last night because of Monday Night Football, but the intro and the climb up that first radio tower were quite memorable! Just have to get used to FPS controls on a PC after so much time with console gaming
Yeah, I didn't think of that! I guess I need to dig out my charging cable and give it a go
I thought the charging cable doesnt work to run a wireless controller? I could be wrong and hope I am since thats the one thing holding me back on trying out a few games on the PC. I always thought you needed a wired controller or they sell something to read the wireless controller.

Right. The charging cable won't cut it. You either need the "official" overpriced 360 controller for Windows, a wireless dongle (which I believe are no longer in production, but you can still find around for sale), or a wired controller (which is what I use).
WOW, what a blast. I haven't fully beaten a game since Red Dead Redemption. This game was truly a treat. I thought the story was great, the bad guys (Vaas and Hoyt) were awesome. The last few missions were badass and the ending was great.
Took me 22 hours to finish the main story, and I only cleared 11 out of 34 outposts...... and only did about 20% of the side content (wanted dead, trials of rakyat, supply drop, path of hunter, side missions). I imagine it could take another 10-30 hours easily to 100% the game.
Really looking forward to going back and clearing the remaining outposts with all my skills in place (dual death from above is great). I might ramp up the difficulty to hard or start a whole new game on hard, not sure.
The developers really need to patch the game so that the outposts get re-taken once the game is complete and so that XP earned after the skill tree is complete can be used towards other things....the re-play value alone for taking over outposts is indefinite....
I can't wait to try this. Don't want to buy it yet (still finishing Skyrim and Dishonored) so I've been looking at Redbox.. Can't find it at any Redbox within 50 miles of me. Gamyfly was a bust as well as it's listed as Very Low availability.
Having a blast with the game so far! Can someone tell me how to display the framerate on the PC version? I'm using Ultra settings and it seems to run pretty well on my modest gaming PC but I'm not sure I'm getting a steady 30 fps. It's hard to go back to lower settings once you've seen the game at the highest settings
UPDATE: Nevermind, I see I can download Fraps software to get this info. Just thought maybe there was a console command or something I could use. Edited by vpn75 - 12/18/12 at 10:15am
I am kicking myself for telling my wife to get this for me for Christmas. She always complains that I never give her any ideas, so like an idiot I told her to get me this. It's time to start sneaking around and seeing if I can find it...
Have any of you guys been playing around with the map editor portion of the game? If so, I'd love to see what you guys have come up with. I believe that at this point, you can't upload maps that include vehicles, but other than that, you can make some pretty cool maps that could even be played through basically as a new single player level.

I messed around with it for about 30 minutes. It seems pretty amazing, lots of options. You can add enemy AI and vehicles, but doing so invalidates the map for multiplayer sharing so you can basically only play it on your own.
I love the idea of making your own singlplayer map, but what seems strange is that you cant use any of your awesome take down moves or skills earned in singleplayer in the map editor, when you choose "test map" you are dropped in with two health bars and no way of using takedowns..... which in my opinion is the best way to try and take over an outpost, trying to do so stealthily with takedowns. I am hoping Ubisoft patches this somehow and also allows users to share maps with AI and vehicles and some kind of XP leaderboard for each map, doing so would allow for so much replay value it would be insane.
Really makes you wonder what the peeps at Ubi were thinking, it's like they have given us a freaking Lamborghini, but have limited us to using it in a 10 MPH parking lot.......
I am about 4 missions away from finishing the game and I ran into a glitch, which according to the ubi support forums have been there since day 1, where I cant use my camera or rock. It just does nothing. Not a major issue as I have to get a little more creative on sneaking around guys but people are really complaining because you cant do any missions requiring the camera. The screen goes black and it just sits there. Right now I am finishing all the side missions before I finish my last few missions. Just need a few more relics and 1 more letter and I am done. I just hope none of the last missions require the camera. An issue like this should of been dealt with by Ubi by now. According to those it patched for the PC on Dec 21 but the consoles have had no luck so far.
You will realize you have this issue if all of a sudden all the weapons you are carrying are gone. It started for me when I accepted a hunting mission.
Sorry to vent about another issue but I cant get all 120 relics because I have progressed to far and the last one I need is no longer accessible. Another "fix" they said coming. I have read PS3 just got an update and that the xbox one will be soon. Not sure what it fixed though. I would of havent wasted a few hours collecting everything if I had known I couldnt get one of them.
To any newcomers you cant collect this relic once you unlock the 2nd island.

So collect all first island relics before advancing the story too much?
I'm guessing island two is tough. Already got all of one opened up and almost all my crafted gear. Storywise I just burned the weed fields and that was great fun using the flamethrower and Molotov! No more outposts either.

You dont have to collect them all just the one in the cave where your friends are. I liked the 2nd island better for a certain reason, I'll wait till you get there before I say more. That mission you did was fun, I enjoyed the "effects"

I read that on the Ubi forums but some PS3 users were saying the rock and camera issue was still there. I am almost done with the game, started the final mission during halftime and I am about to finish it. I am just more concerned on that last relic. I dont want all those hours to seem wasted. 1 more letter and I completed the game 100%.
This game is GREAT. I really enjo the open worldness of it all, including exploring, hunting and leveling up aspects (getting syringes, bigger holsters, etc).
Missions are fun too but can be a little uneven on the difficulty and checkpoint progression. Igot to the Vaas battle so maybe less than half left I think. Lots of side missions and outposts left too. Quite a bit of single player content.
Just be sure to get a sniper with a silencer so you can take out the alarm boxes from a distance. There can also be up to three alarms in one compound. The box is good for this too, if you are close enough. By the time I finished the game I had almost all the skills, the game was pretty easy. Just be sure to get most of the take down skills, especially the heavy.
I'm early into this game (got it over the holidays) and am loving it! I've been keeping spoiler free so far, which is great.
Unfortunately I've been avoiding the hang gliders since I'm scared that they won't respawn if I use them, and I may miss something (for example, having to use the glider to reach something otherwise unreachable). Is there anything I need to know before I use the gliders?

They come back just like cars. Seems to me like another mode of transport but there may be some relics to get that way. So far I've found one I can't jump to but have not tried the glider but haven't tried too hard to get relics anyway.
You'll probably die the first time you fly. It is a bit awkward the first time. Skydiving and wingsuits fall under the same category.
Also for hang gliders, remember that the respawns are somewhat random. There are particular places where they will spawn, but they won't always spawn there. On the first island, I only know of one place where there is always a glider (the doctor's house).
And I've been relic hunting on the first island and have yet to find one where I needed a glider. Not saying they don't exist, but I doubt they do since the glider respawns are mostly random. If you can't get over a barrier in the way, then you probably need to go under it.

Didn't notice them being random, didn't pay attention though. I have ran into a pair of gliders near each other and thought it odd.
The one relic I've had trouble getting up to is kind of by the Dr's place. East of him on the north beach I think. Its like a tall pointy hill with a building or altar on top. Haven't found a cave yet. I have been at this place a couple times but didn't spend much effort. Last night I opened all the second island towers and started relic searching on the first so it will come up again very soon.
Speaking of relics. Missed the boat so to speak. Now that cave is non enterable and I too have to wait for a patch. My relic hunting now pretty much revolves around getting loot boxes for cash to get island 2 maps. So one missed isn't huge...yet.
