Whoops, didn't mean to imply the towers would "overpower" the room, just that really good bookshelves would suffice ; ) I like those KEF iQ70 towers also, the only potential downside for them might be finding a matching center speaker later when he tries to upgrade to 5.1.

Look at the iQ30s
for $350 a pair. Buy 3 pairs for your 5.0 (and have a spare, or convince a friend to do the same and split one of the pairs)), then buy a sub (that NHT commsysman suggested is OK, or a 12" sealed from SVS, Rythmik, etc) and have a great 5.1 for music and movies.
+1 on this. Takes advantage a great deal and addresses the 5.1 upgrade.
A variation would be to just buy two pair now for the front LCR and a sub. Then upgrade to surrounds later (almost any KEF Uni-Q speaker would match well as surrounds).
