Acoustically Transparent Screen or Standard Fixed Frame - Page 2

ANSI White would not necessarily be the same and color balance could be different. None-the-less, directional or multilayer coatings cannot be used on woven screens (at least yet). The coatings have to be applied BEFORE the weave process. If they were applied after, then the "holes" would be plugged. Since they are applied before the weave, one has no control over directionality, twist, etc.

Woven screens are less expensive to construct ... you go to a mill, specify your thread, and weave .... bzillions of yards are produced. You order a screen, they cut your order from the roll it off it goes. If the uniformity is a bit off, it's a bit off. Vinyl screens (well, Stewart anyway) go through an extensive inch by inch QA. For some, that may not be important...for others it is.

Like many aspects of my theater, my choice of Seymour CenterStage XD DIY material was the result of many hours of online research, much of it second hand information from those here whose opinion I respect, followed by a leap of faith. Well, there was a material sample in there too, but that breaks the whole "like many aspects of my theater" bit. I wouldn't change a thing, it has worked out great - 136" wide screen, front row at about 12 feet.

As Dennis mentioned, the measurable A/V differences may or may not matter to you. Everyone's ears, eyes and bank account are different.
