Really, you have seen what JVC did to its 8K projector... Replaced it with e-shift faux 8K, citing cost reasons.

Good-Better-Best...all these projector categories have made strides in "value" over recent years...perhaps none more dramatically than the "good" category. But you still don't find 12bit processing, top-quality lenses, larger chip sizes, and triple-flash 3D in sub 20K projectors.

A few years back AVS changed there projector device catagories from 5000 under and over to the current 3000 dollars. There is just more really good to great projectors under 20000 and the trend will continue, thus the fewer discussion threads for projectors in this forum.

on a side note I think projectors quality and most of all lumens has reached the largest screen sizes in most rooms.

If you have a 2 story theater room then edge blending or a projector in the 5000 luman arena would be useful and would be over 20k.

the $20000 and above projectors mgiht be coming in greater quanities with the advent of led and lazer

size and weight is another factor.

panasonic made great strides in smaller form factor with it's 20000 lumen projector at the london olympics. (if i remember right it was 95 lbs)

Triple flash 3D is now available in the Benq W1070 (roughly $/€750,- - 800,- ). Apparantly it is part of the TI Chip(set): http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-94-12583.html.

Nowhere in BenQ's specification or owners manual for the W1070 is there any mention of 144Hz refresh rate. It lists a vertical scan rate of from 28 to 120Hz. In order to do triple flash, it's my understanding that you need 12bit processing and If this BenQ model were to have this and/or 144Hz 3D, why wouldn't they crow about it? I think the review you referenced is mistaken.

No, it apparantly is a hidden feature, there are some issues, but there has been a lot of discussion on the issue, hence this German just measured the timing through the DLP link glasses. He also mentions there must be some bit depth issues.

What would he use a Benq for? A paper weight?

His German simply is better than mine, BTW he was the first here to post a review of the Benq budgetprojector, the W5000, at the time, so he has dabbled with little toys. Though no reason to get hands on with this one, aside from technical curiosity, as his secondary and tertiary viewinglocations are now covered with (3D) displays/projectors.

Sim2 put out this one in German prior to ISE:

It's understandable that there would be issues if the 3D glasses were set for 144Hz frame rate and the projector's 3D refresh is 120Hz.
