What settings do i choose for audio options on the ps3?

Thread Starter
I have a Samsung LN40D630 HDTV, Samsung HW-E450 Sound Bar, and PS3.
I have an optical cable from the sound bar to the ps3 and hdmi from the tv to the ps3.

I want to know how to set the audio on the ps3 for optical so i can get the best results, only problem is i have no idea what to select in the ps3 optical out put menu. Keep in mind i do not care about blu-ray this is strictly sound for games only!

Dolby Digital 5.1CH
DTS 5.1
AAC
Linear PCM 2 CH 44.1kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 88.2kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 176.4kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 48kHz

also there is an option under video (not sure why) for audio - bit-stream or pcm. not sure what to do with that either.

any help is greatly appreciated

There should be an "automatic" option that will auto-detect the correct settings for your soundbar. Probably most of the Linear PCM 2 CH options will be applicable because your soundbar is a 2 channel device...but if it auto-detects it for you then you wont have to worry about choosing the right one; just hit "accept". If there is no auto-detect option, then incompatible types may be grayed out for you and un-selectable, but I'm not sure since I don't have a similar setup and I use HDMI to my receiver.

You should most likely choose Linear PCM. Bitstream is when the audio is sent directly to the sound device without the PS3 decoding it first. With LPCM the PS3 decodes it before sending it off to your sound device...since it is a sound bar it probably has limited decoding capabilities so LPCM is probably best.
