What settings do i choose for sound on the ps3 when using soundbar with optical cable?

I have a Samsung LN40D630 HDTV, Samsung HW-E450 Sound Bar, and PS3.
I have an optical cable from the sound bar to the ps3 and hdmi from the tv to the ps3.

I want to know how to set the audio on the ps3 for optical so i can get the best results, only problem is i have no idea what to select in the ps3 optical out put menu. Keep in mind i do not care about blu-ray this is strictly sound for games only!

Dolby Digital 5.1CH
DTS 5.1
AAC
Linear PCM 2 CH 44.1kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 88.2kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 176.4kHz
Linear PCM 2 CH 48kHz

also there is an option under video (not sure why) for audio - bit-stream or pcm. not sure what to do with that either.

any help is greatly appreciated

Your setup is just like mine right now until I finish my basement. I have a Samsung PS-WC450 sound bar connected to my PS3 via optical cable and PS3 connected to TV via HDMI. Here is how mine is set:

PS3 Audio Out - set to optical -> manual -> leave 2 default options (PCM 44.1 and PCM 48) checked off -> also check off Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1

You could probably check off the other two PCM options and the AAC as well if you wanted.

Don't forget to go to the Audio -> multi output setting on your PS3 and set it to "On" after the above changes.

I don't think there is one best setting. The audio output is determined by the source material. That is why you want to leave the two default PCM options checked off as well as checking off the DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1. I'm not sure if your soundbar has a lcd readout like mine, but when I watch a movie, play a game or watch tv it will flash the output being used for a few seconds when I first turn it on. I think it also flashes the output being used when changing channels and the source audio changes.

Hope this helps out.

This is what I have set:

BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)
- Bitstream
- Linear PCM (set)

BD Audio Output Format (Optical Digital)
- Bitstream (set)
- Linear PCM
