Here's the latest, direct from Samsung chat tonight (12/26):
Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Aiza'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
Your Issue ID for this chat is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Aiza: Hi, thanks for reaching out to Samsung Technical Support. How can I help you today?
You: When will Samsung release a firmware fix for the BD-E5900 to actually play 3D discs? To date, I have exactly 3 discs (Brave, Step Up and Amazing Spider Man), and only one of them will actually play in 3D
You: The rest all freeze after the scene selection or Play Movie is selected
Aiza: Let me check that for you.
You: From reading multiple posts online, this is a common issue with Samsung devices
Aiza: Which Blu-ray disc is playing?
You: While I would rather not deal with the hassle of taking it back, I also would prefer a 3D player that actually works.
You: Brave works fine
You: The other two will not play, and both have the same issue
You: I am on the most current firmware version, according to the website
Aiza: Okay, can you give me a minute?
You: yes, rather
Aiza: Thank you.
Aiza: As I checked from the list of Samsung Blu-ray Players that is having incompatibility issue are with these movies only: Amazing Spiderman, The Hunger Games, and The Avengers.
You: You should add Step Up Revolution to that list.
Aiza: If other discs aside from those movies aren't working, I can make a feedback.
You: However......if you are aware of issues with specific films, why hasn't it been fixed? With the exception of Spider Man, those movies have been out for months.
You: And I guess my real question is when will this be fixed? I'm guessing if Avengers and Hunger Games are still having issues, it's not imminent.
You: And if that's the case, I suppose a trip to Best Buy is in order. I hear the Sony 3D players have exactly zero issues with these films.
You: And I will add my review to the other scathing reviews on both Best Buy and Amazon. I only wish that I had read them before I purchased the BD-E5900. I have always believed that Samsung had quality products.
Aiza: I understand how you feel. From the updates posted for those movies, Samsung is currently looking into the solution and there's no estimated time for a fix yet.
Aiza: The update for a firmware that will fix the issue will be posted in our website.
You: So, and I want to make sure I get this right.....
You: The answer from Samsung is "Gee, that's too bad that you bought a product to play 3D discs, but it's simply not going to work now, and we have exactly zero idea when we'll get around to fixing it."
You: Do I have that about right?
Aiza: I understand that Samsung does not intend to cause any inconvinience to the consumers.
You: Yet you are.
You: Thank you for your time. I will be happy to post the contents of this chat in my reviews on Amazon and Best Buy to warn other consumers of the complete apathy on the part of Samsung to update their products to actually do what they are designed to do.
Aiza: I respect your opinion and I'm sorry for the inconvinience.
Aiza: Is there anything else that I can further assist you with?
Aiza: Thank you for chatting with us. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!
Aiza: Follow Samsung Service on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
You: Thank you for the links. I trust I can leave comments in those locations as well.
So......bottom line, get a Sony if you wanna see Spider Man in 3D.
