I'm using a gateway FX series computer/windows 7 connected to my hdtv. media player home cinema plays dvds and ripped blu-rays well, but the video does not appear to be smooth and is a bit jerky. Any recommendations for settings for a novice? I noticed I have a choice of "renderer settings" - set to optimim or default. not sure what to so. thanks.

Can you post more information about your hardware specs.. Processor, MoBo, Video Card, RAM?

How is your HTPC connected to your HDTV?

What is the container and codecs for the content you're atempting to play? What splitters do you have installed on your system?

Help us help you.

Sammy, it's a gateway fx6803-35 connected via dvi. 2.8 ghz intel core i7-930 processor, 9 gb ddr3 ram, intel x58 express chipset, ati radeon hd 5850 graphics, 1gb of ddr3 discreet graphice memoy. downloaded mpc-hc didn't adjust anything. not sure about splitters. copied movies to hd via dvdfab to folders. your assistance would be greatly appreciated. (I'm a NOVICE but slowly getting addicted to this and want to learn)

the first thing id look at is what your CPU usage looks like when youre playing a jerky video.

if its 100% we know where to start. that would mean the video card isnt doing the heavy lifting
