Wiring speakers and leaving the wire accessible for later.

I would like to wire a room for side surrounds but not actually add the speakers today.
What is my best option? One of the walls is an outside wall and needs to be vapor sealed so I'm thinking of using a single gang outlet in the wall with a gasket. The problem with this is that it very big compared to the single wire thats required. Can anyone suggest a better solution?

Is there a way to leave the wire sealed within the wall and have some sort of mark on the wall or detail measurement to expose it later?

You could install a speaker terminal plate and have it look fancy - this method also taunts you to buy more speakers....rolleyes.gif

I would leave the cable buried behind drywall until I installed the speaker, in-wall. Then, I'd use a keystone plate, single gang, over a low-voltage bracket.

If you can be present during drywalling, you can easily have the drywallers pass a cable through a grommet.



If the speaker will hide the drywall pass-through (plate or grommet), then you can just pass it through the drywall without a grommet, low-voltage plate, or junction box. This would be for on-wall speakers.

I came up with the idea of a half-gang plate a few years ago; production has yet to commence.

Thanks for the response. I agree re the half-gang plate btw and read your post earlier today :-)
The problem with the low-voltage plate or grommet is that its an outside wall and so I need a box with a vapor seal / gasket. As the boxes are not 100% sealed around the wire I don't really see what this buys me but anyway I believe that is what I am supposed to do.
