Glad I have been watching that page.

Meanwhile, I havent watched much on the TV.. busy month for me. We did watch a couple BluRays - Back To the Future and Polar Express. Very happy with it. At first the TV seemed to be TOO BIG but not anymore.. saw a 70" at CostCo the other day and drooled ;-) lol!!

We watch a lot of HD TV Rogers and Media PC (Mac Mini Running Plex) and its been great.

I will try some of the posted settings soon.

it was 1499.99 at fs until dec. 27th....i almost bought it but then decided not to get it, oh well...they will be 1299.00 soon:O)

I've been looking at this model for awhile now and still haven't pulled the trigger yet. I'm a big gamer and will be playing battlefield 3 and black ops 2. Anybody have any problems with input lag. Also I will be watching a lot of sports mainly hockey and football. How is the motion blur and or artifacts for fast moving picture. Any input is greatly appreciated. I've also been looking at the Samsung un60es7100
post #483 of 687
There's a website that has lag tests, and the 60LM7200 is supposed to have 35ms of lag. The UN60ES7100 is supposed to have 46ms of lag.

My old LCD is 52" and has an awesome picture and has input lag in the teens, but I want a 60" screen now. Because of the lag numbers, I'm probably going to go with a plasma. I'll probably get a Panasonic P60ST50 (or new P60ST60) which has input lag of 16ms according to another thread in this forum...the GT50 is supposed to have 24-30ms of lag which is why I am going to try out the ST first.
Thanks for the response. I hear the plasmas are better for the input lag but I think i'm gonna try out the led's. I didn't realize the 7100 was that high for lag wish i could test them somehow

Hi all,

I bought this TV back in November and have been very happy with it, but have experienced an odd issue from time to time. At seemingly random intervals, the TV reverts back to its default out-of-box settings. I have to go back in and re-enter my custom settings for every input, which is frustrating. Keep in mind it doesn't happen every time. I would say maybe 3-4 times since I purchased it.

Has anyone else had this issue? My kids do play with the TV during the day while I'm at work, so that might be the problem right there...just curious.

Also, if anyone needs another datapoint for calibration, my settings are below. I used the Disney WOW Blu-Ray (advanced portion), which I highly recommend. Best Buy owe's me a free ISF calibration, but Saturdays aren't available for the next few months!

What site has the 60LM7200 lag results? If it was done with the new Bodnar device you should know that the 2012 Panny plasmas are testing in the ~30ms and higher range with that device as well. Many other LG sets are testing in the 29-32ms range with the Bodnar input lag test device.

I googled and it looks like it might be displaylag.com which does use the new Bodnar lag testing device. Note that the Samsung e550 which has been described as a gamer's dream in some forums actually has a higher lag test result:
http://www.displaylag.com/samsung/samsung-pn60e550/

Here is the LG 7200 result:
http://www.displaylag.com/lg-electronics/lg-60lm7200/

That's pretty good for any large HDTV using the Bodnar testing device.

Thanks for that, I got the same disc but didn't have the patience to run through the advance portion. Just copied your settings now. Interestingly on the hd tv channel I have it on with these settings, flicking between these settings and the 'cinema' settings pre-programmed, looks identical to me. Does it to you? If these are the settings you have to keep re-setting and it does, just click to cinema. Not sure I like either has a yellowish or dull gold tinge to everything. Any suggestions on that?

I found this a while ago while researching the tv. There was original chatter that it was 'vaporware' or some sort of LG trial with us being guinea pigs etc. Most plausible theroy earlier on was that it was to be an exclusive to Best Buy (FS in Canada). I think this might validate that. It's a half baked feasibility study which might have been conducted by someone retained for Best Buy. The site is a generic hosting site and the file un named, someone working for them or on it, uploaded it for whatever reason and google eventually indexed it:

Typical, now that I got time to tinker it's not failing for me. So far been on for half an hour and 4 seconds on the nose to get to home. Definitely been much longer in the recent past which I noticed like you. I wonder if it increases the longer the tv is in. Which might make sense as a cpu you it could be bogging down after hours on. Will keep monitoring.

I notice flashlighting coming from the corners of my set. Is this pretty common or should I try to get a replacement?

That's the site. The GT50 and up plasmas were getting in the 30ms range from what I read, but the ST50 was supposed to be in the teens...but I don't know if anyone tested it with the Bodnar device. How consistent is that thing? Are the results reproducible on the same TV to within one or two ms?

At this point, I don't care if I get an LCD or plasma...I'm looking for the lowest input lag for a 60" screen.

The only settings that look horrid to me are standard and vivid. The cinema setting is a good starting point. Honestly, once the cinema setting is enabled, the picture is very good. The custom tweaks further improve the brightness, contrast, color, and tint a few more percentage points. A full ISF calibration would dial in the grayscale, etc., but when you are 90% of the way there, it becomes a law of diminishing returns. For me, it's hard to tell the difference between small tweaks at this point. But, the engineer in me wants to get this as close as possible. Make sure you run through at least the color and tint portion of the disc to see if you have something that is seriously out of alignment. My settings may not necessarily be best for your TV.

I did read last night that changing color gamut to either Standard or BT709 will enable the best color reproduction with regard to the standards used by the industry. This was in relation to the LM7600 series, but I suspect it applies here as well. Not sure how mine got on SMPTE. I redid the cal with the blue filter and my results changed slightly. I'm now at color: 60 and tint: G10.

For what its worth, I have Best Buy coming out to do the free calibration on March 9. I'll reply to this forum with the results after that happens. I'm not hoping for a miracle, but want to at least get my grayscale measured and adjusted accordingly.

It is a common side effect of this technology. Try the settings I have listed above for backlight, brightness, contrast, and LED local dimming and see if that helps. It is not very noticeable now for me in a dark room with those settings. If your picture is on standard or vivid mode, the flashlighting will be worse. Adjusting these will help reduce it.

If that doesn't fix it and it drives you crazy, you could always try for another unit...but it's luck of the draw.
If you slowly press the screen in the lower left and right corners you will remove most of the flashlighting. it worked for me.
when you press the corners you will hear and feel a snap. That must be resetting something under the screen but it fixes the flashlighting.

Can anyone tell me what file types the LM7200 will play via usb stick? I'm interested if it can play mp4's, .mts or .mt2s files. Can't seem to find this info anywhere. Any info would be much appreciated.
It can play MP4 files (that's what I use, don't know about the rest).
Can't speak for .mts or .mt2s but I've thrown everything from .avi to .mp4 and .mkv at it and it's played all of them from a usb hdd....
Just picked this up. I don't see too many people posting their settings. Only a few. Anyone mind sharing? I will tomorrow once I have everything setup the way I like it! Is there a similar model out there that might have more settings available to compare? Thanks!

Have you tried the ones you did find? Which ones have you tried?

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that it allows mp4, avi, and mkv playback. My hd camcorder produces .mts files so it would be great if it could play them as well. Maybe someone will chime in later as to whether the lm7200 will play that file format extension as well.

From what I've seen the results are reproduceable but with LEDs the results vary a bit depending on if the reviewer takes the highest, lowest or average score. Plasmas seem to be more consistent from the top to the bottom test blocks.

From what I've heard the UT50 was in the 30ms range, maybe 29. Pretty much if you get a ~30ms score with the Bodnar device its as good as it gets unless you are going under 32".

Hello everyone, I'm the owner of Display Lag and just wanted to chime in. Yes, the Lag Tester results can be reproduced, even among two of the same model display. For example, I tested two different versions of the Samsung UN60EH6000 and they checked in at 47ms and 48.2ms respectively. The device has been fairly accurate based on my testing and I'm very pleased with it. I am following the same standard for LCD/LED HDTVs as other sites, by grading only the bottom bar which contains the most lag. Some HDTVs did not give me fully consistent ratings, and therefore I gave the full spectrum of measurements picked up from the Lag Tester (for example, the Samsung PN51E7000 gave me readings between 40-51ms, so I reported it on the site just like that). This is the same standard that AVForums is grading by. I want everyone to be on the same page so that we can finally create a unified standard for grading input lag.

Being a professional Street Fighter player, I used that experience to come up with a grading scale that makes the most sense in terms of translation. For example, I use the ASUS PA248Q for my practice sessions, which is rated at 36ms, and it is extremely difficult to differentiate between that and the tournament standard ASUS VH236H that is rated at 18ms in my database. With that said, I feel confident that HDTVs up to 40ms graded with the Lag Tester should be more than satisfactory when it comes to gaming. I know you guys are anxious to see results for Sony and Panasonic displays, and I will do my best to get my own tests for those televisions as soon as I can.

I hope you find the site useful for your needs. Please spread the word to your peers, I would greatly appreciate it. :-)

I've had my set for 4 days now and I've got it calibrated to what looks great for me, similar numbers to what everyone else has on here. No light bleeding or anything like that. (I did pop in the corners like suggested and heard the pop.) I have 2 questions:

1. I've noticed on 1 of the pictures, that he put "Day" and "Night" after 'Expert 1" and "Expert 2" respectivly. Does anyone know how to do this?

2. 3D Settings, have you guys just left those alone, or are those good to tweak also? Could anyone post what settings they have if they have tweaked anything. Just curious, I've watched Finding Nemo and Titanic so far in 3D, both looked amazing to me. Just wondering if there are little things to tweak to make it that much better

Thanks, much appreciated.

How exactly did you do the "pop" method? I want to try but also want to be careful. I will post my settings later. For 3D, I just raised the backlight by 30 (50 normal, 80 for 3D) but otherwise tried to match my 2D settings. Hope that helps. smile.gif

Hey man, Im just writing to congratulate you on putting this much effort and creating that website, this is going to help a lot of people make a more informed decision. Your website will surely get a lot of traffic and I wish you the best and hope you update it with more TV sets, specially the new ones coming out. Good luck!
Just gently press the screen in the lower corners of the TV. You will hear and feel a small pop. It will clear up any clouding you7 have in the corners.

It would be helpful if you had a page that listed the displays in order of their lag measurements.

I have received several requests for this, rest assured it is being worked on. Thanks for the feedback! smile.gif

Just tried. Doesn't even see (recognize) the *.mts video on the stick. However if you simply rename the file extension from *.mts to *.mp4 it does recognize it and plays it fine. cool.gif
