The tech industry is at times a bizarre business, but it's not too often that a high profile security software guru is wanted for murder. As wild and crazy as it sounds, that sums up the situation surrounding John McAfee -- yes, THAT McAfee -- who is reportedly on the run from murder charges, and not for killing PC performance (ZING!). And guess what? Murder is only the tip of the iceberg.
According to Gizmodo, John McAfee is a prime suspect in the murder of American expatriate Gregory Faull, who was shot to death in his home on San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye. Apparently the two men weren't on good terms and had argued over a number of issues. Last week, Faull filed a complaint against McAfee for firing off guns and exhibiting "roguish behavior." More recently, the two had a dispute over dogs.
Last week, Gizmodo ran an extensive article on McAfee's current status, and it reads like a movie script for a bad Hollywood movie. It involves firearms, narcotics, police raids, and several "far-fetched" assertions.
McAfee is said to have been posting on drug-oriented Russian message boards about his abuse of bath salts. He posted about "super perv powder" and relayed that the most effective way of taking a dose is through rectal insertion, also known as "plugging."

It only gets weirder from there, and we don't feel inclined to post everything this guy was allegedly into. If you're looking for quirky tech news, however, hit up Gizmodo's links above and get ready for a wild ride.

Since our piece ran on last week, several readers have come forward with additional information that sheds light on the change in McAfee's behavior. In July of 2010, shortly before Allison Adonizio pulled the plug on their quorum-sensing project and fled the country, McAfee began posting on a drug-focused Russian-hosted message board called Bluelight about his attempts to purify the psychoactive compounds colloquially known as "bath salts."

Writing under the name "stuffmonger," a handle he has used on other online message boards, McAfee posted more than 200 times over the next nine months about his ongoing quest to purify psychoactive drugs from compounds commercially available over the internet. "I'm a huge fan of MDPV," he wrote. "I think it's the finest drug ever conceived, not just for the indescribable hypersexuality, but also for the smooth euphoria and mild comedown."

Is this real life ?????

Elsewhere, he described his pursuit of "super perv powder" and warned about the dangers of handling the freebase version of the drug: "I had visual and auditory hallucinations and the worst paranoia of my life." He recommended that the most effective way to take a dose is via rectal insertion, a procedure known as "plugging," writing: "Measure your dose, apply a small amount of saliva to just the tip of your middle finger, press it against the dose, insert. Doesn't really hurt as much as it sounds. We're in an arena (drugs/libido) that I navigate as well as anyone on the planet here. If you take my advice about this (may sound gross to some of you perhaps), you will be well rewarded."

Your joking right ?

Apparently the founder of mcaffee antivirus ... one of the best known and most trusted antivirus software programs for its promise of security, trust, and integrity ... Is wanted for murder that is reasoned to be the resulting behavior of his experimenting and chronic use of the drug "bath salts" which he administered to himself rectally in a process called "plugging".

I'm pretty sure I could not make up a better story if I tried.

It's perhaps not as funny as if is shocking. So I apologize.

I guess my LOL was more just pure shock and disbelief at such an improbable story.

I didn't mean to sound harsh so I apoligize for that.

I know who John McAfee is, the rise of his company should be #1 material in any class about marketing and product placement. I guess I just don't find people going off the deep end, turning into an addict, and then becoming a murder suspect funny. I guess it's happened since I've become a parent now, I see these stories and my first thought is that he was someones son once. Sorry - I cry at the end of more movies now as well. tongue.gif

No offense taken you make valid points that I agree with.

I guess once you get by the sensational drama and shock the story is really a sad story.

His underage girlfriends and sexual drug experimentation is shocking to many and obviously if he's guilty of murder it's even more shocking.

I too find no humor in this but it does further my suspicion that these anti-virus programs have a front office selling these things that drag on system resources and a back office creating the reason you need to contact the front office in the first place.

I think it's well known John McCaffee started as a guy worried about his security online revolved around porn/sex activity.

Then once he had something he just marketed it very well.

How's antivirus gossip not slightly HTPC related.

I'm sure there's a few HTPC owners here using mcaffee antivirus.

But yeah... It's s bit off topic but I couldn't help myself

I heard on KFOG this morning that while the Belize police were looking for Mr McAfee, that Wired magazine had been able to talk to him and apparently Mr McAfee alleged that since his neighbor had been killed, that he was worried that they were instead looking for him....funny that Wired could find him first was the gist of the story. Also McAfee apparently sold the company 20 years ago so doesn't have much to do with current McAfee altho I do agree it is like real estate agents creating their own market....world's a sucker for a salesman!
