40-42" For aproximatly £300ish

Hi all, I'm new here.
Looking for some help choosing a new TV as the last one I got must have been about 8 years ago now!!!
anyhow It's time for an upgrade, I'm looking at a 40-42" sized screen, 1080p, Ideally round £300ish.
My plan is to hook the TV up to a Raspberry Pi with XBMC on it as a Media centre.

If anyone could give me any advice in terms of whats good or not, I know this is the Plasma Section of the forum, but I don't really know if LCD is better or Plasma (or if they are equally good in their own right) but anyway any help would be great thanks guys, as i feel a bit lost in a sea of Tv's at the moment!

There are no 1080p Plasmas under 50 inches here in North America, but i'm presuming you're in the UK and over there Panasonic offers 42" versions of the UT50, ST50, and GT50 series (all three are 1080p). The UT50B is entry level and has no Anti-Reflective Filter and is a good bargain. The ST50 (and the higher-end GT50) has a better panel and AR Filter, and more features but the prices jump up quite a bit.

Plasma is and always be better than LCD and LED LCD in most respects, and a mid-level Panasonic or Samsung Plasma has better overall picture quality than even the best LCD/LED LCD TVs costing twice the price. There are some fairly good 40"-42" LCD TVs, but nothing that will approach the picture quality of the three Pannys i listed above - but that's not to say that an LCD doesn't look good; the 42" and smaller ones do fine for general TV watching and i enjoy watching my smaller LCDs.
