Directv Genie vs. Tivo?

Here's my experience - I had Tivo for 11 years.
But, I have been using Directv, and there was no HD Tivo that worked with it.
So, I stuck with the old series 2 tivo - in 4 rooms.

Finally, Directv came out with an HD Tivo receiver. But, it does not have multi-room sharing, a must for me.
Too bad, because I have been very satisfied with Tivo. Both my wife and I knew the Tivo interface very well,
and like the remote.

In order to get HD, I had to switch to Directv DVRs - we have 2 DVRs and 2 normal HD receivers.
All are networked together, and work perfectly.

It was a struggle for us, since we were so familiar with Tivo.
But, after a while, we have learned the Directv system, and enjoy it very much.

Before this, I was a huge backer of the Tivo system.
But, I learned that Directv DVRs provide just as good an experience - It's just different.
You will have to learn to let go of the Tivo experience, and firgure out how to get what you need from Directv.
Once you do, you will find there's lots to like about the Directv DVR.

Truthfully, if Directv had built an HD Tivo with the whole home feature, I would have gone with it.
But, now that I have "mastered" the Directv, I have no pangs of regret - and I don't miss my Tivo system.

Downside: The Directv remote. They believe in having an individual button for each and every function.
The result is a remote with many buttons to learn - and the buttons are small and close togehter.
It's very easy to push the wrong button in the dark. (They have a lighted remote, which makes it
much easier to find the right button. This remote is $20, and is well worth it.)

Upside: No more $30+ monthly Tivo payment. As I recall, Directy charges $2 per month for DVR service.

I hope this helps you. When I first got Tivo, it took us a while to master it. The same is true for Directv,
but the tesults will be ok fior you.

DirecTV DVR service (advanced receiver fee) is $25/month, not $2 unfortunately.
