During the holiday shopping season, I’ve decided to purchase a new monitor. I’ve been looking for two days now and I really could use some guidance. So far the top 2 that I've seen (leaning towards Dell):

TOP CONTENDERS:

1. ASUS VW246H
2. Dell U2412M

Max Budget: $300
Monitor Size: 23-24”
Widescreen: Yes
Response Time: 5ms – 8ms
Display Colors: 16.7 Million
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
DVI: 1

Things I would like:

Pivot and height adjustment
Speaker bar included OR the ability to add a speaker bar (I mostly use headphones)

I currently own:
Motherboard: ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW

That's plenty powerful: You must be a video gamer?

Based on this clue, have you ever considered 120Hz-native-refresh computer monitors such as Asus VG236H, Asus VG278H, Samsung S23A700D, Samsung S23A750D, BENQ XL2420T, Samsung 2233RZ, Acer GD235Hz, or any model of 120Hz monitors, even if you never plan to do 3D on them? Even at windows desktop, you'll get half as much motion blur during things like moving windows, scrolling text (including browsing), etc.

Bump your budget upwards slightly by $100 will gain you access to most models of these monitors. Sometimes there are sales, for example, a quick google search found one popular computer online shopping online site has the Acer GD235HZ at the same price as VW246H -- at well within your price range even including taxes and shipping.

I just wanted to chime in as a computer monitor aficionado to say that I agree 100% with Mark.

Also, if you need help deciding on which monitor to get, try looking for that model on tftcentral. Their reviews are pretty in-depth and should help you come to a conclusion.
