Hello I have went through lot of reading and research and will be getting my first receiver soon.

I have decided to get either Yamaha or Denon but still bit undecided so asking for some input that you all have through your experience.

Receiver will be hooked up in a basement with 2.1 (Possibly going 5.1 later on) with zone 2 being on the main floor with another 2 speakers, so hopefully all of receivers i'm looking at can be remotely started/turned on with the remote apps so that’s a must as well as Airplay is a must, rest of internet services would be a bonus. It will be hard wired to my home network. Not sure how up scaling and 4K etc is really needed for future or it’s a needless option. 3D would be necessary as well as I’m planning to get 3D projector.

1) Denon model AVR-2313CI (899 sell price I believe) or Yamaha RX-V773 (899 I’d try to get better price then this)
This would be my ultimate set up since both have 2 HDMI outputs which I will need to have Plasma and Projector hooked up and not running back and switching cables but it’s bit past my receiver budget considering 13% tax on a top.

Or this set up with: (with this one I’ll need to get HDMI output splitter to hook up both Plasma for every day watching and Projector as secondary)

2) Denon model AVR-2113CI (not sure of the price as I can’t find it in local Futureshop or Bestbuy but about $749) or Yamaha RX-V673 ($699)

3) Or possibly save even more and get Denon AVR-2112CI which in Bestbuy in Canada sells for about $499 or AVR-1913 (BB has good discount so $499 as well) which in my mind seems to be similar level receiver if they would be enough for what I need.

If I can save some cash I can spend it on better speakers so don’t want to go over my head with something that I won’t use.

Thank you.
Daniel

A few things to note ...

1. The 1913 uses the lower version of Audyssey MultEQ while the "CI" models all use the higher version MuttEQ XT
2. While the 2112CI is a better AVR than the 1913 (audio fidelity wise), the 1913 offers a few more features than does the 2112CI. Review post #2 in the Denon AVR-XX13 Owner's thread linked in my sig.
3. On the 2313CI, if the plasma is not also HDMI 1.4/3D, then with both the PJ and plasma plugged in to the HDMI Monitor outputs, the PJ will only display 2D video. (this is true for any HDMI splitter as well).

Thank you for very informative post, from what I red I'd be pretty happy with AVR-2113, now if I get lucky for some input about Yamaha's 673 since it's on similar level.

I had lot to read about different receivers and even though I went to buy Yamaha 673 for 500 CAD from Futureshop but they had Denon AVR 2313 for 999 and they dropped the price to 750 so I grabbed it since other store had Denon AVR 2113 for the same price. Right now I have hooked it up two Polk Audio Towers and Energy Sub and after reading some more how to set it up I'm loving the music.

These are all models I am also looking at... Have the same dilemma. Do I get a receiver with the 2 hdmi outputs or do I just use my hdmi splitter...

I'm not questioning your knowledge but I have to ask, are you sure ?

I'm about to buy a new avr just to have 2 HDMI outputs for my 3D projector and 2D Lcd Tv.
Can't I really passthrough the 3D signal to the projector from the GPU of my HTPC ? I can't believe this is true eek.gif

Yup. I'm sure. That's how HDMI switches work, although if you physically disconnect the HDMI cable to the LCD each time you want to watch a 3D movie on the PJ, that should work.

Thank you for prompt reply.

I see that there are some HDMI splitters which can solve this problem (here and here.

Isn't there any 2012-model AVRs which can do the same ?

Sorry, but no. Although there are HDMI switches with EDID management as you linked, unless you are located in Europe, the ones available in the USA are quite cost prohibitive as noted by the offerings below which is why you won't find the functionality on AVRs at this time ...

Thank you again for your replies.

Although what you are saying are the most common and accepted informations in the forums, I will keep investigating the avr models. Because I really want to avoid using switch or splitter.

I already had some feedbacks confirming that some Pioneer models (last year's mid-level vsx-2021 too) are able to passthrough 3D signal to the projector when a 2D Tv is connected to the 2nd HDMI output and in standby. I think this is thanks to being able to switch the HDMI output between :
a) HDMI OUT ALL
b) HDMI OUT 1
c) HDMI OUT 2

I will get back with more feedbacks.

The Denon 3313CI has a Zone 2 (HDMI) output that can pass an independent HDMI source different than what is playing in the main zone, although if it's the same source, the limitation discussed earlier still applies.
