I have a question regarding utilizing the USB DAC on the 105. I have all my music stored on a Seagate GoFlex External Hard Drive (FLAC files). The Hard drive is currently run via CAT6. It does have a USB port. I have the hard drive hooked up to my Pioneer SC-55 running through the Home Media Gallery. Will I be able to take advantage of the 105's USB DAC if I get the BDP-105.

The 105 can access any networked storage directly using SMB. The USB DAC input is strictly for direct connect to a PC as a playback device, and limited to stereo. All inputs on the player use the same DAC, including network, attached storage and shiny discs

Even if network SMB was gapless it wouldn't matter since the files are all out of order. rolleyes.gif

Quick owner question:

100% of my Cd/SACD/hi def is now digital. If I do 105 -> amp -> speakers via balanced output I get the full benefit of the analog side of the 105 via the media server that is built in? This is the only feature I want besides BD playback (I have a 93 right now)

Anyone else in the same boat? I care nothing about disc based music anymore.

None of the SACDs mentioned in the review seem very accessible.....at least I can't find a source.

That seems doubtful if he's writing it now - magazines have pretty long lead times (and the March issue is probably already out).

But why not order a 105 to try yourself. Ultimately, that's the ONLY way you're going to be able to know if it's right for you. Asking everyone and their brother to post a review really isn't going to change that. If you find you don't like it, you're only out the shipping charges.

Yes, I know but I have been upgrading speakers lately like a brand new 800Diamond for my center channel!  Also I have the BDP-95 and it works great so until they release one with even better audio it doesn't feel right :)

I posted this in the Marantz 8801 thread, so apologies for the cross post, but it seems relevant here as well. Here is my scenario:

Right now, I have both HDMI outputs of the Oppo 105 connected to the 8801. HDMI 1 out of the 105 goes to the Blu-ray input which I use to watch movies (taking advantage of Audyssey). HDMI 2 goes to the DVD input, but with 7.1 Analog inputs selected for Audio, which I use to listen to DVD-A's and SACD's, taking advantage of the DACs in the Oppo.

This necessitates having the Oppo 105 in DUAL HDMI mode, which diminishes both picture and sound quality (albeit slightly), and is causing handshake issues.

Several members here have suggested just using one input on the 8801 (in other words, everything going in to the Blu-ray input), and getting a Harmony remote so I can program it to "Watch a movie", selecting the Blu-ray input with HDMI audio, and "Listen to BDP", telling it to select Blu-ray input, 7.1 Analog audio, and put it in Pure Direct mode.

I purchased a Harmony 900, and so far so good. The only problem is, I can't figure out how to tell it to change the Audio Input from HDMI to Analog. Member RichB sent me those codes, and suggested I send them to Logitech:

INPUT MODE:AUTO 16 01 15
INPUT MODE:HDMI 16 01 16
INPUT MODE:DIGITAL 16 01 17
INPUT MODE:ANALOG 16 01 18

I've done so this morning, and I'll keep everyone posted as to what they say. In the meantime, if anyone has another suggestion, I'd love to hear it.

Holy cow --this DVD-a is amazing through the 105!! The remix of Thela Hun Ginjeet sans Adrian Belew was such a treat!
Then there's discreet channels to Bill Bruford's tribal syncopation's and Fripp's bizarre 7/8 strumming to the 4/4 measure.

Take one of your files and rename the extension from ".mts" to ".m2ts". Does it play now?

Update on this -- tried changing extension to M2Ts and 105 still didn't recognize -- however the promo plays fine.
I'm open to ideas on conversion to a supported codec (of course w/out compromising PQ)

Promo?

I would first see if mkvmerge will repackage this into an mkv container. Available here: http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/. It's free and should be about as fast as a file copy because it is not altering the A/V contents, just moving them into mkv.

If no good, I would try HandBrake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HandBrake. Also free, will run somewhat slower because it transcodes the contents. Output is mp4 or mkv container; I always use mkv.

If still no good, time to search videohelp.com for other conversion utilities.

The camera didn't come with a disc of file conversion utilities, did it?

I am a fellow 900 owner. Your best bet is to "add" each action (middle option under "everything is working")with a 2-5 second delay so that the pre has time to settle into its input. Sometime, equipment needs some time after one action before it can receive and respond. For instance, I have to have a delay between my 105's power on--> input-->--HDMI Back (3) for my HTPC activity.

Ahh! but it does have better "Audio" I felt the same as you do And the 105 is more than worthy of its salt , the increase in audio fidelity Oppo has extracted from the 105 over the 95 justifies its self as a" true" upgrade, if one is pleased with 95 but still feels that the last bit of fidelity can be garnered from it, It exist in the 105:cool:

Sorry not promo ,, demo file showing all the features of the camera.. I cant cant locate this file or its extension. I'll give mkvmerge a try.. thanks again Bill for your invaluable assistance.

I am afraid that is a subjective thing and not everyone will feel the same. For example, I don't, but I like the fact that it does not have a fan and overall more user friendly.

It's been suggested that sharpness 0 is soft on HDMI1, that +1 is better. Not everyone sees it, but OPPO is investigating.
