I have the 103 that does not play region 2 ...Oppo recommended a region kit that you can install onto the back which I did not do yet...you can buy them on EBay...I asked for recommendations but it seems I am a newbie so my posts are not generally dealt with....good luck.

The region mod kits we know about are shown in the FAQ: Region Free Modifications

Oppo doesn't recommend kits, but almost everything about the 105 has been discussed on this thread, so search the thread and you'll find:

If I use it again within a day there is no need to do this. I have a region-free mod but don't know if this has anything to do with it. Anyone else having a problem like this? I will probably contact Oppo about this.

Just a follow-up on this. I have been in contact with Oppo and they think there may be a memory leak problem and that it is related (as Bob Pariseau suggested) to the Quick Start function. They have given me a couple of things to try the next time this happens. Fortunately or unfortunately, that may take a while since I will probably be using the player daily for the next few weeks. It is clear it is probably an Oppo problem that may need to be addressed in a future firmware update. If anyone else experiences this they should get in touch with Oppo so that a solution can be found. I suspect this could also be a problem with the 103 as well.

As convenient as the Quick-Start feature is, it does cause issues from time to time. Its comparable to leaving a PC on 24/7 without a reboot. Occasionally things will go wrong.

That will obscure detail. Looking at that old article, it seems like most of what was done was to tame that.

I have 20 feet of open room in back my sitting position, so I get almost no room gain.
I may have to pick up a measurement program and mic and see what is going on.

The Salons have some crossover adjustments which I have used.
It would be fun to see if I like accurate smile.gif

A man's home... smile.gif

It's modern.
I have attached a picture looking forward and looking back.
The ceiling goes form 8 feet to 12 feet with 5 beams that also help break up the sound.
None of this was planned for audio but it works well.

Right now, moo moo is enjoying Diana Krall Live in Paris.

Hey, nice! Kind of reminds me of ours.

When we were looking for a house, distance from neighbors (to avoid them complaining about noise), and room layout were both very important.

Thanks.

I think the differences in rooms accounts for the views on Audyssey.

If I had the urge to fix something, I would start with the control on my speakers.
For bass, they have adjustments +/- 2B in the 47HZ region.

If I had smaller speakers, I would pair them with sub(s) and send the preamps out to them, and adjust accordingly.

My friend is sending his 105 outs to his B&W's (3 ways) and also to a Grotti sub and it sounds great.
He has a nice room. It is regular but he also sits in the middle of the room.
That makes a big difference.

I use this kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/OPPO-BDP-103-DVD-Blu-ray-Region-Free-Hardware-Modification-Kit-/160942653070?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2578edfe8e for my 105 i got a week ago and it works just great. You can connect it externally rt internally. It already comes with DVD region set for 0 and A for blurays. Within 2 minutes, i was watching my UK region 2 DVD with no issues...

Can you post a photo and details about installation? This sounds a lot better than the painful install I had to go through.

It has a USB and RS232 cable that i connected external to the 105 using their USB and RS232 inputs. That's all... See attached photo. The USB provides power only to the module. The gray ribbon cable is used for internal connections only onto the motherboard connector near the mediatek chip.

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

There is much more to room acoustics than room gain.

That's weird--the instructions in the manual for that kit for changing the Blu-ray region are identical to the instructions in non-PRO version of the bluraychip kit that several people on this forum (including me) say doesn't work.

Very true.
But if you do not like room gain, then you are at disadvantage when your seat is against a wall.

All I am saying is that a good room helps a great deal.
Years ago, I visited Goodwin's high end and listened to some Avalon Speakers.
They sounded fantastic. The speakers were great, the room was better.

There are pluses and minus to digital processing room correction.
With my system and my room, I believe I made the appropriate choices.

For me, BDP-105 analog performance is an important piece in the chain.

You sad That device doesnt work most 105 http://www.ebay.com/itm/OPPO-BDP-103-DVD-Blu-ray-Region-Free-Hardware-Modification-Kit-/160942653070?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2578edfe8e

Actually these mod kits do seem to work with the 105. The problem is that the instructions as to how to do the region selection for Blu-Ray is not as clear as it should be. I didn't think mine worked and then accidentally stumbled across the way to get it to work. What the directions don't make clear is that after you have done the Dimmer, Dimmer, Dimmer, Mute, Region Number sequence you must immediately hit the power button and turn the player off. If you wait more than a couple of seconds, it doesn't work. When you restart the player, the region change will take place as long as you did the shutdown fast enough.

Oh ok, that makes sense. I don't know a lot of cars out there that can go that fast naturally without blowing an intake manifold. When I hit that speed in the past I ran out of road. tongue.gif

Understandable confusion. There are *three* kits. Two from bluraychip.dk (PRO and non-PRO), and one from that link on eBay. People thought the non-PRO from bluraychip didn't work, but it's apparently a glitch in the instructions, not in the device itself. So you should be able to use all three.

The PRO is the hardest one to install. The one from eBay is the easiest to install.
