you really have to sit down and analyze your system in your living room and go over any possible future upgrades/additions you may want to make to it. Will you really "need" any of the additional analog inputs on your Onkyo? Do you rely heavily on its surround modes/eq/speaker adjustments? Just remember, if your Onkyo will be in the analog path, it will affect the overall signal going to your power amps....you'll have to decide if that will improve or degrade the sonic qualities you're striving for. And if you don't use the 105's analog outputs and use its hdmi output for all audio/video, then you will have made the wrong decision in purchasing the 105. A 103 would be the better, cost effective choice.
So I think what I'm going to do is lay out how I would like to use it, and you guys can tell me whether or not this is even possible with what I currently have.
If I were to buy this, I'd use the Oppo itself for Movies/Music, and my HTPC for Television/Gaming. When I look at the back of the Oppo I see that it has 1 HDMI Input, 2 HDMI Outputs, and Analog Surround Sound Outputs. Am I able to send the analog audio from the Oppo 105 to my NR809 for BOTH the Oppo player and the HTPC? I guess I'm just not sure how the HDMI out/in's work on the Oppo. So would I put the HTPC "In" to the Oppo, and then use one of the Outs on the Oppo to go to the receiver for video, and use the other out on the Oppo for the 105 itself? And then is there a setting on the Oppo to tell it to send audio via the analog outputs rather than the HDMI to the Onkyo receiver? Does that scenario even work, am I just not understanding how the inputs/outputs on the Oppo work?
