1. Suddently, 105 stopped playing music which is stored on an attached USB hard/SSD drive. Then, 105 became unresponsive to PLAY button on Medial Control running (current version) on an iPad mini.

2. Subsquently, it displayed OFF on 105 panel for 'unlimited' time upon pressing OFF button on the Media Control (iPad mini).

3. It required me to press POWER button on 105 to complete the power down.

The above problems is persistent, and I decided to report these problems on this forum, after the 2 consequentive failures.

FYI
- I previously used the same version of Media Control on the same (and other) iPad and 105 with most recent public beta, without any problem.
- I have been using this 105 since Jan/13 without any problem prior to these failures.

Anyone else having the same problem?
I've run into that same problem with prior versions of 105 firmware, but I recall it was always with SMB shares while playing media from my Network attached drive (Synology NAS) and using the MediaControl HD app.

I have a question for you....How are you able to use the MediaControl HD app with your usb drive? Don't your tracks play out of sequence? That issue has never been resolved yet by Oppo.

Hi Dan,

Last time I checked was a few month ago. OPPO played the music out of sequence, and I created and played my personal playlist using the remote control which worked OK but, it was not worth the trouble for me. Since, I gave up on that idea of playing music in particular sequences.

Hope, I answered your question, and appreciate your comments on the problems that I reported ... thanks/e.

^ Edward, I just locked up my 105 also, just a second ago, while playing some media tracks on an an attached usb drive and using the MediaControl HD app. I just think the Media Control app needs to be debugged thoroughly before it can be a decent tool to play back your media files. I wouldn't trust using it in this condition. Gotta wait for the next revision of the app.

Dan, I did not have these problems with the current version of Media Control HD when it was used with the most recent Public Beta version of 105 firmware. Based on this experience, I believe problem source is with the 105 firmware.

I reported this problem to OPPO a few minutes ago, and am waiting for their response.

^ Have you tried just using the 105's onscreen browser to play back your audio files? I've never had a problem with the onscreen browser, but I've locked up the 105 using the MediaControl app many times in the past.

My player also froze while playing USB files using the MediaControl app. I don't know if the bug is in the firmware or the app but it is somewhere there... I am waiting the solution from Oppo.

Type of USB Cable between a computer (Windows based) and the USB DAC input of the BDP-105

Does the bdp-105 need the +5V on the USB cable between a PC and the USB DAC input to operate properly ? Some USB cable can be provided with only the data signal (no supply included). In doing so, you don't bring the supply that could be not very clean, coming from a PC source.

It would be wonderful if this feature could be added to older models, like my secondary system 83SE. tongue.gif

I agree, it can make downloading the updates a snap. Maybe too easy, I must remember to read the updates before loading next time.

Long time Oppo owner ready to move up

I bought one of the first Oppo DVD players - OPDV 971H and it still sounds and works flawlessly. I'm ready to move up to the BDP-105. I could set this up two ways:

1. I could run the analog out of the 105 to my old Denon 3805 line inputs. I may even add an old but very good NAD 2200 amp for the front speakers and just use the 3805 to power the three remaining speakers.

Or 2. Get an Emotiva UMC-200 and use the 2200 for the front 2 speakers  and route UMC-200 outs to the 3805 line inputs. I doubt that this could work since there would be double volume controls from Emotiva and Denon.

I could get a second stereo amp plus a mono amp for the UMC-200. And just move the 3805 to a garage shelf  with the OPDV 971H for working music. Any suggestions welcome. What would be a good amp to fill in my 5.1 system along with the NAD 2200?  I also do digital audio recording and I would like to use the DAC's of the 105 for mixing and editing.

I recently purchased the 105 particularly for its DAC capabilities. I had tried running the PS3 via HDMI into the 105 and got no video. However running it via optical and running HDMI for to the TV works fine. Will the PS3 not handshake with the OPPO? The cable works fine as I had hooked my laptop using it to the Oppo.
Problem solved... Cable issue it was being bent. I saw some sparkles on the laptop hdmi input. I'm guessing the PS3 is less tolerant of that. On another note... what would happen if I bistream into the Oppo the high res formats? Would the Oppo act as the processor and decode them?

The Oppo won't accept the high res Dolby and DTS formats on the HDMI inputs, so you need to send convert those to PCM.

I've read that older non HDMI AVR's can be used with the 105 by routing analog to the AVR inputs. Will the various component RCA line inputs of the 3805 accept the 105 analog outputs?

After recent firmware update, CD won't play

Yesterday I did firmware update via network and everything went smooth. When prompted for 'factory reset', I skipped that as I did in the previous times. Now, when I try to play regular CD, I do see counter keep skipping (running) as if I pressed fast forward. No sound. I connected 105 via RCA and HDMI and for CD play I use multi channel output. However, if I try to play the same CD as DVD/BD (meant TV is on and can control Oppo UI through TV), it plays. Now, if I change the input to analog (to receive 2.1 via RCA) on the receiver, it continue to play on 2.1.

One other interesting fact is when I play CD on multichannel CD mode, when song track changes from say 1 to 2, the counter won't get reset to zero for the next song. It keeps continuing!. Has anyone seen this issue?. I am yet to call Oppo on this.

Have you not done that yet? It would be the first thing to try. As the Release Notes say:
Quote:
Due to the extensive changes in this major firmware update, it is required that the user performs a "Reset Factory Defaults" operation after the firmware is installed. Please write down your special settings before doing this, and remember to re-apply your settings and adjust the proper volume level (if applicable) before you play any content. You may experience stability issues if this step is not performed.

Thanks Bill for the quick response. I did the factory reset through the setting menu but didn't resolve the issue. Is there a way to force update the firmware one more time even though I am at the latest version?.

Yes, you have to do it via USB stick or CD. Instructions are on OPPO's support page.

I forced firmware update using USB (thanks Bill).

Attempt 1: After the updates and re-start, it didn't prompt for factory reset prompt. I did persistent storage reset and played CD. Same issue.
Attempt 2: Second attempt using USB. After re-start no prompt either. Did the factory reset and persistent storage reset using system menu. Played CD. Same as earlier, counter moves faster as if it is in fast forward. But when I change track, now counter gets reset and starts from zero!.

At the moment not sure what to do. Any suggestions.....

For those yet to update their firmware, I suggest removing discs from the tray (via network or USB). During all my previous updates, I didn't have disc in the tray. This time I left the CD and did the update via network. My guess is after the re-start, firmware updates might go through initialization or something of that sort and disc in the tray might attempt to play simultaneously. This might have cased my issue.

After the new firmware is installed the first time, it no longer requires the Reset Factory Default, or prompts for it. This is a new feature. You can backup your settings to a USB stick and restore them later if you want to do the Reset anyway.

I'm not following your problem very well. You are not getting CD audio under any conditions? But DVD and Blu-ray work ok?

Could you simplify your output connections and try them one by one?

^^ Satiger, are you saying that every CD you place in the tray is skipping on the first track, or is it just one particular CD you have that is skipping? If it is just one particular CD, I suspect you have a scratch on that CD. I don't think the firmware upgrade has anything to do with your issue.
Thanks for all the response and sorry for being not clearer with the issue;

Working;
Playing CD in bluray setting (105 -> HDMI to TV and Yami - Yami is set to BD). Regular audio CDs in this setup plays songs . Receiver is set to receive signals via HDMI and out puts to 5 speakers. This works. While this being played, if I turn input selection on Yami receiver to multichannel (connected to Oppo using RCA), it continues to play as usual. No issues.

Not working:
Playing CD using RCAs to Yami receiver (TV is off and no HDMI is in use, Yami is set to multi channel). Insert regular CD and hit play. No sound output but the counter in the front panel moves faster as if I hit fast forward (eg. 001, 003, 006, 009, 013 etc). This is not specific to one CD, I tried many CDs and issue persists.

^ My guess is the lack of HDMI handshake is muting the RCA's. Try it with the HDMI physically disconnected as a test.

Next, went to Wireless Setting > Start New > Manual > Security Mode = None. Changed to WEP and entered Password > Connection Successful.

Went to Connection Information > Security Mode = None.

Connection Test fails.

Carpal tunnel is setting in on my thumb.

I have the same problem.  I've been trying to reload the new FM and reset factory defaults.  No luck.  Even if it says "connection successful" and I can see my IP address it does not work. Also Connection Test fails every time.

I sent OPPO an email today. I will post the answer.

Dan, I played 105 using OPPO Remote control, and ran into a new problem which was 105 stop playing while lowering the volume using '-' button on the OPPO Remote. I have reported this problem to OPPO last night.

Sometimes my Volume buttons don't work. Have to power down OPPO to fix.

Hey first post here.

I'm the happy owner of a new Oppo 105. I must say wow what a sweet piece of electronics!

Took a bit of work but I have the Android Remote Control App running on my Blackberry Z30 (OS 10.2.1)

The DLNA feature on the Oppo finds my Z30 and just links right to it. So I can play the music files from my Blackberry using the Remote Control Software on my Blackberry. Now how cool is that? I have torture tested this setup..PAUSE>>>SKIP>>>PLAY>>>>VOLUME up/down>>>>go to new folder...works perfectly so far.
