AVS official 2012 BLACK FRIDAY and CYBER MONDAY SPECIALS deal thread! - Page 2

As others have mentioned, full racks can be found on Ebay/Craigs list and the like.
You'd be surprised how many are sitting in somebody's garage....I was able to get
two Server Racks with doors and side panels for $50 from a neighbor. Hosed them
off in the back yard then wiped them down with a microclothe. BTW. Full racks are
HEAVY, so it's good to have access to a pickup.

BUT, you can also get smaller racks, like a 12 or 14U, at Musicians stores. My
Family Room 14U I bought off Ebay for around $125 shipped. Look for OSP
These will easily hold an HTPC or two, amps, and a drawer or two.

If I may ask...

What's on you guys' Black Friday wish list? What are you hoping to find.

Me? An htpc case, recent mid level video card, ddr3 ram and AMD motherboard. Gonna try to get some cheap movies as well. I'd like to run up on a basic 39"-42" TV for the computer room but I'm not gonna fight a mob to get one. Other than that just some knick knacks. I'm really hoping Fry's has everything I'm after.

I'd love to get a case of 18 yr old single malt...at a bargain price...tongue.gif (probably not gonna happen)

Other than that, not really anything in particular.

If you're looking for a rack, also check out monoprice. They sell a couple different sizes as well as rackmount shelves etc. High quality and reasonable price. Shipping may be too much if you're on the east coast though.

It appears, as some of you have mentioned, that most of the deals on hard drives are for external drives. How can I find out what drive is inside the enclosure, and does cracking open the enclosure and using the drive internally void the warranty?
...but voiding the warranty is part fo the fun

Here you go guys.. get lucky.
Seagate 7200 RPM 3TB disk for 89 bucks.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=shZWRjQAEeKss7bn-seCtg0_oO.H3_0_0_0&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16822148844

Limit 3, i already ordered 3, looking for other ways to order more.
Here you go, i ordered another 7 from from amazon.. they did the price match.

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST3000DM001/dp/B005T3GRLY/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_2?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals

Dont forget to add the 3 yrs extended warranty with Newegg for 8 dollars per disk.. this will bring ur disk to 2+3 = 5 yrs of replacement warranty.
Ironically amazon only offers 1 yr and 2 extended with sq trade. Total of 3 yrs of replacement warranty. So its your call.

Edit - I cancelled my order from amazon. hate the 3 yrs warranty.
Will watch out for other deals with similar warranties for this disk. Or asking other friends if they can submit order for me through new egg.

Be careful, the current discussion on Slickdeals indicates that Newegg's extended warranty may not, in fact, start at the end of the manufacturer's warranty.

I don't buy extended warranties. Ever.

I'd rather buy a new one if it breaks after the mfg warranty.

about the warranty...from Newegg.com chat:
Emma: Hi, my name is Emma. How may I help you?
Me: want to order: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6822148844

if i add the "3-year extended warranty" is that 3 years after the 2 years that comes with the drive from the manufacturer is up? so 5 years total?
Emma: I'd be happy to help you with that. May I please have a moment to look into this for you?

Me: sure
Emma: Thank you very much for waiting, Allen. Please note that the extended warranty begins after the manufacturer warranty ends.
Me: so that would be 5 years total? just want to make sure...the 2 year manufacturer warranty followed by the 3 year extended?
Emma: Yes, that is right.
Me: thank you very much

I bought it too so that's what I'm hoping, but a conversation with a service rep. is not very convincing. I'm still thinking about asking for my money back.

What if I bought 3 and warranty on one. Could I choose which the warranty was valid on ?

That's hilarious! I imagine it wouldn't work though because it's probably locked to a serial number.
