Synopsis
FBI agents track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money. IMDb

This looks interesting thus far, cast seems solid.

I was hoping this would be good and that some of the reviews were wrong but it was DUMB. Total waste of a decent cast. Problem is that it was way too ambitious and had too many "yeah,.. right" moments. A bit shocked this is only the 2nd response.

Try in the blu ray software thread and you'll hear from people.

Couldn't find it, I tried the search and nothing came up either.

I agree. Quite a waste of talented actors. This movie might serve as a standard example of the decline in movies since about 1999. 2000 to 2013 may be the worst period for movies in modern times. Not to say there are still not a few good ones each year. Just that the overall quality of script/story and intellectual value has declined severely in this century so far. The weak attempts to shock and surprise simply insult my intelligence. A good story will always beat two hours of nonsense created to do nothing but (fail to) surprise or shock you in the finale. And don't get me started about how sterile these studio moves have become. And now even a lot of Indie moves have become a repetitive bore...

Oh please give me more good content to view in 2014!

You know, maybe a year or so I would have agree with you 100%. But now I'm starting to see that yes there a whole lot of stupid crap and over rated stuff esp during the summer blockbusters.

I also realize now that a lot of stuff I saw in my youth like Star wars and Superman 2 don't hold up too good over time because of advancement in F/X. Watching them now seems like I watched something completely different. Whereas classic films story/character driven such as Jaws, Godfather 2, Sixteen Candles or Scarface seem to fair somewhat better. Heck I'll say it,..even one my all time fav Enter the Dragon lost it's luster over time.

However, I also now realize that there are also really, really good stuff that also gets made like Limitless, Prometheus, Flowers of War, Watchmen, TED, etc simply because the budget and quality of production and technology allows for movies to be so much more entertaining and "big" when they hit the mark.

And the neat thing is that the "hit mark" part is really all subjective and affects everyone differently. For instance, a lot of folks like myself hated Man of Steel but many same loved it and thought it was the best superman ever so you see I think as long as there is money to be made, there will always be good movies for everyone. smile.gif

I was just noting the other day how many of the modern era films that I think are great come from the period a few years before 2000 to a few years after 2000. An unusual number of favorite films of mine fall into that period. Note sure why really. I guess maybe it was around the time when the most bucks in quite a while was available to throw at projects, i.e. before and just after the internet bubble peaked. That's not because I like super-big budget films, just the opposite, but I guess it's in those times when there is lots of money looking for something to invest in that more off the beaten path stuff gets a chance to have some bigger budgets. Or, maybe I'm just hallucinating, I dunno.

No I agree completely. I was shocked that there were so many complimentary responses to be frank. I actually found my self reaching for the remote a couple times during the movie ( as in hitting the off button ) but was able to muddle through. Great cast, but terrible writing. It was SO cheesy.. like the relationship between the two detectives? give me a break! lol, and that scene with the lock at the end? just WAY to formulaic. But then that's just MY opinion, everyone is entitled to one! smile.gif

I enjoyed this movie in the 'check your brain at the door' and just sit back and watch. Good cast, ok story.

I thought it was an interesting concept and interesting storyline up to about 2/3 into the movie. Then it went in a weird direction at the very end that I felt cheapened the whole thing.

And that's just the beauty of movies is that no matter how much you think how dumb or bad it was, somebody enjoys and loves the heck out of it.

Like this one, I thought "maybe" 1 or 2 at most might find something unique about it. The ideas and concept in this movie were miles ahead of it's "real" ability to execute it. There was no solid foundation, a lot of smoke & mirrors and cheap tricks.

And I still can't wrap my head around that fact that lots of folks didn't care for Prometheus at all..such a grand magnificent work of beauty. With the exception of AVS and on line reviews, I personally don't know anyone in my circle that didn't feel the same as me.

Yeah, the tacked on Hollywood Ending really brought it down (at least to some degree).

True, that.

The movie is based on what is probably the best zombie book out there.
It's written by, believe it or not, Mel Brooks' kid Max.
Highly Recommended.

Just saw this. Story was a bit slow at the beginning and a bit cheesy too.

Picked up towards the middle but the plot twist at the end made no sense. It completely killed the movie.

Just watched this and I thought it was meh. The performances were fine, but the core story that ties everything together was weak. The big "reveal" had no impact because we were never made to care for that aspect of the story. Weak writing spoiled what could have been a great movie. I think the writers looked too closely at the tricks and didn't pay attention to the grand scheme of things. Guess they should have taken their own advice. wink.gif

Ehhh, the more I'm reminded of this movie the more dumb I realize it is. Movies like this are complete BS alright,..oh ok lets see how many rabbits can we pull out of our asses. It's like that other BS movie with Michael Douglas The Game where everything just "happens" to fall in place, at the exact time, in the exact moment as if it's all conveniently planned out & premeditated.

Yeah ok right, as if they know precisely how the character will do, say, go, react before it actually happens. Like they're god or something.

What I don't like about movies like this (that pull the kind of "twist" that it did) is that the filmmakers blatantly lie to us and it insults my intelligence. That's much worse to me, imo, than just a bad/stupid plot.

Looking at the trailers, I suspected what you all are saying and haven't bothered with giving it a go.

Rent it it's fun and it's got Morgan Freeman as a bad ass. It's fiction so it has no rules. I found most the people who didn't like it, just didn't get it. Watch it you'll get it.

Yes Yes fabulous movie!! Might I be so bold as to suggest one of my personal favorites on par with its excellence? People didn't get this one either, and it had " More adventure then humanly possible "! - go figure!:

Lol we didnt like it because it insulted our intellegence. The twist shouldve been axed from the movie. The movie couldve survived well without it.

Forgot I've seen this movie. it should be on the movie channels by now. No need to waste a rent on it.

This movie just didn't grab me, Franin. I dunno. Perhaps a nekkid Isla Fisher doing magic will improve my view of it.biggrin.gif
