YouTube HD videos in forum posts?

Is there any way to do this on the new forum software?

On the old VBB version there was the YOUTUBEHD tag we could use. Now it looks like the VIDEO tag only supports SD, and if you include youtube's hd=1 in the URL query string, it does not recognize the video at all.

^ I'm able to select any of the available quality settings on that including HD.

Yes but it defaults to 360p quality. In the old version, there was a way to default to the 720p version.

For YouTube links, the regular link defaults to 360p, eg -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kw1UVovByw

But if you append &hd=1 you get the 720p version, eg -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kw1UVovByw&hd=1

But in the forum, if you link to the HD version it does not work at all:
Code:
[video]www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kw1UVovByw&hd=1[/video]

Ah, I'm not sure that you can force HD, but anyone who wants to can choose it.

This is a forum for home theater enthusiasts isn't it? tongue.gif I think most would prefer the best quality audio and video possible.

The way it is now it is 3 clicks to get the HD version (and not very clear unless you look for it). You have to click play, then the gear icon, then select the 720p option.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just confirming the way the platform currently works. cool.gif

Been trying to do this for quite some time now, but I guess it's simply not possible, I guess the idea is not to waste bandwitdh without the need to from youtube' point of view. You can still tick the option, its available from the embedded video above as an example.

Hi...More or less that is the thought. Most of the time full HD is not needed when just viewing something. But at least the option is their vs when we first relaunched the site. Yes, we are a site dedicated to great audio and video. But at the same time...most of the videos posted really do not need to forced into HiDef.

My DSL appreciates defaulting to a lower res while still retaining the ability to bump it up and wait... cool.gif

Does the data you collect on browsers, computers, etc... contain anything about internet connection speed?

Perhaps there could be a way to have a per-user feature allowing users to select a default resolution for YouTube videos? I also find it frustrating (regardless of the website) to have to play the video, pause it when the gear icon loads, change the resolution, restart the video...

Per user doesn't mean anything. A member could be on LTE one minute & EDGE the next.

And no...The site is self can not tell how you may be connected speed wise.

Or a per device cookie or something?

It's ok if Huddles doesn't support it, we won't poke fun and you don't have to keep apologizing fo rtheir lack of features wink.gif

There appears to be enough features to keep you coming back consistently. smile.gif
