Marantz vs Meridian vs Denon vs Any expensive player

I understand some product costing more because of "fashion" and "design" If Marc Jacobs put his vision in a product design, its gonna cost more. Well, some DVD player manufacturers defenetly put fashion on it, but some are saying that the DVD player cost thousands because of hardware quality/video quality.

How true is this?
