I'm in the market for a budget receiver for a budget family room 5.1 HT system. I don't want to spend a lot and I don't require a lot of features, but good reliability is important. So far the following look like good contenders:
Pioneer Elite VSX-42 for $250 NISB at Best Buy
Onkyo TX-NR509 for $250 NISB at amazon
Denon AVR-591 for $170 refurbished at accessories4less.
All three seem to be fairly comparable in terms of features. The Denon seems to have the best automatic speaker calibration technology, but is the oldest and it being refurbished makes me a bit nervous, as I've never purchased a refurbished anything. Right now I'm leaning toward the Pioneer because it is the newest, seems to be the best deal in terms of price, and I can get it locally so if there's a problem I can return it easily.
What are your opinions on these receivers and do you have other suggestions (preferably under $300). Thanks in advance.
