So, I have run out of hdd space on my htpc and thanks to some suggestions here I think flexraid will fit the bill nicely. Unfortunately if i want to use a parity drive and gain ample hdd space I will need to add 3 or more additional 3tb drives, the 2 issues i have are: not enough Sata ports left(only 2 empty ones left), and not enough hdd trays in my case. My htpc is also in a cabinet so i want to try keeping the hdd's in their own cage/enclosure to help keep them cooler and running healthier.
I'm looking for some suggestions on what i should look at as a solution. An enclosure and an esata card? A port multiplier card (what's the difference)? I want to stay as energy efficient as possible but also want enough performance to playback hd video and such. I was looking at newegg and they have some sata cards for over $500 and some for under $50. I never needed one so i don't really know what to look for or where to start in this. Any help would be appreciated... thanks.
