Hey guys,

Just built a new home and am getting my new stereo set up. I bought an onkyo nr809 but am frightened of the rampant reliability issues and plan to sell it for what i paid for it, 500 dollars. I have never even used it.

My price point is around 500-600 dollars. Reliability is a main concern as is connectivity via a remote app. I plan to use the app a lot and want to be able to turn the receiver on and off, and control Pandora easily and switch sources easily.

I also want to be able to BI-amp the front speakers, and be able to add two subwoofers if i need to. My setup will be 5.1. My room is about 16' wide and 28' long.

I have the following components already

KEF iq70 towers
KEF iq60 center
KEF C1 surrounds
Klipsch RW-12D

I am considering the Pioneer SC-1222k, the Yamaha A-810 and the Yamaha A-720.

I want to make sure i have enough power and features to keep this receiver for the next 4-5 years. Id rather have too much than too little.

Thank you for your input. All of these receivers have their advantages, but i am unsure of what direction to go.

I have also considered the denon avr-3312ci, but am scared of the reliability of that unit as well and would rather not buy refurbished.

Based on some reviews of Pioneer's D amp SC series AVRs and Yamaha's higher end AVRs the Pioneer will put out more power to 5 or 7 channels.

Yamaha AVR 1010

I know they're not the same as what you're looking at but the Pioneer 1222 does use the D3 amps. Seems they drop off less in multi-channel than the Yamaha.

Digital amps are new to the mainstream higher-end consumer market.

As with any new-ish technology, there could be some bugs to work out.

If reliability is of primary concern... I'd go Yamaha.

The new Pioneer Class D3 amps are an improvement over their previous Class D Ice amps. They have also been engineered to perform with 4 Ohm loads. While this isn't too important with your 8 Ohm KEF IQ's (nice speakers by the way), it should provide peace of mind that the Pioneer will provide you with more than adequate power. The 1222K also appears to be a clone of the SC-61/63 and looks like a good value at their current street price. I have owned three Pioneer AVR's over the years, currently having an SC-25, and have had no problems with any of the them. I am sure the Yamaha is a good AVR and you will probably hear from their owners too. Needless to say however, my vote is for the Pioneer. Good luck in your decision.

thanks guys, great info

i am really excited about the APP and tech of the pioneer offerings, which will probably sway me in that direction

i did however see a local deal on a new VSX-52 elite receiver. i know this is a class AB receiver. its for 500 dollars.

does this compare to the newer SC-1222k? Should i just pony up and go with the 1222k for the newer more powerful class D amps?

Considering you can get the 1222 new for $600 I'd go for that.

yea looks like thats the way to go. i also like that the sc1222k has 7.2 so it has two sub outputs.

does appear that the sale has temporarily ended on the sc1222k though, hopefully it comes back!

i cant find it for 599 anymore.

thanks for the link mate

i called about that last night and they told me that the item does not have a warranty at all, outside of the 30 day provided by newegg.

so i would lose out on the warranty from pioneer. this scares me frown.gif

I'm sure it will be on sale again soon. It seems the price on the 1222 fluctuates like crude oil prices.

In the mean time take a look at the Sony ES1800.

im not sure about sony, the reviews recently from this site have been questionable

i think i am going to get risky and wait for black friday, maybe it goes down another 50-100 bucks?

Ups screwed up the shipping and sent it to California instead of Texas :facepalm:

Holy shhhh...... I ordered am onkyo 515 but itbdoes not havd manual eq so the 616 does. After 2 days of reading between 616 and 1122 I decided to get tbe 1122 and return the 515 back to crutchfield. My dreams was to get the sc61. So i was trying to find the best deal of the 1121 between amazon, newegg, tigerdirect, etc, etc..

So maybe God helped me here because something inside my mind told me "check 1222 on newegg". I saw it at $599. Immediatly without hestitation I bought it an hour ago!!

I cant pass this deal. Last week i passed a nice deal of the onkyo 809 for $459. So i hope this 1222 be as good or better than the onkyo 809 smile.gif

This is my first experience with pioneer. I currently own a denon 3311ci but i really want to try the advanced mcacc. I own also an iphone and ipad so, i think would be nice and can compare later both; the 3311 vs 1222
