In this day and age is Servodrive Contrabass really an option?

Even Tom Danley has moved on from that technology.

If you want Servodrive performance there are many excellent choices. Multiple Seaton Submersives, products from Funk, JTR Captivator, (especially the one with the 2,400 watt amp, and the JTR Orbit Shifter will rock your world).

You won't find anything better, nor for that matter many other options that come close.

The best performance at the best price is going to be DIY. Check with member MKTheater, he has been through countless subs, and his DIY are what he has chosen (at least for now). MKTheater has been through the DTS-10's among many others including multiple 18 inch subs in various configurations. I think he is using "Lilmikes F-20".

Of course DIY isn't for everyone, however, building the F-20 is within the reach of many. Never the less you can't go wrong with the Danley DTS-10.

I am currently using 12 13's in a sealed array. The DTS-10 kit is a huge bang for buck if under 10hz is not needed. $1100 for that kit is awesome!

The DTS-10's will get you high spl down to 12hz in room 9 hz in my basement. My F-20's were good to 16-17hz. My sealed subs are good to 5hz so you decide what you need. I want it all, you should hear dual stacked DR-250's as a front stage!

I have another option in my signature for those wanting a bit more extension than the F-20.

At this point in time, there's no reason to run a Servodrive. Any parts needed for any repairs would be very hard to come by.

It was originally designed for that driver per a request from CSS, but Adire went out of business between the time CSS asked for the design and I completed it.

The reason why the Dayton is recommended is because the specs are compatible, and the Tempest no longer exists.

Seems to me it is easy to spend equal amounts seeking perfection in each band, 0 to 20hz, 20hz to 100hz, and 100hz to 20khz. That adds up to serious coin, and the lower you go the more space it takes, so the money is even greater given the cost per sqft of houses etc.

OTOH the hardest, certainly most controversial area of sensory entertainment is what doesn't matter, or doesn't matter much. One can argue that very little of recorded music has any intentional content below 20hz, and that much that does will be artificial special effects stuff, not mystical illumination of acoustic instruments. Live music sound reinforcement rarely goes below 30hz.

If you want lots below 20hz, and have the space the horn options win. If you don't have the space, what else does what the Contrabass does in such a small package?
