Thanks for the settings, Canton. Got mine today. Very nicely packaged in a good size box. The 600x itself is tiny and comes in what looks like a ziplock sandwich bag. biggrin.gif Very cool to have this much power in such an inconspicuous package.

Are there codes in the Harmony database for this device? I probably won't have the time to get to the nitty gritty of installation for a few days.

Sounds like it could benefit from YAMJ support.

I'm looking into purchasing a new media player and I have a lot of TV shows and movie sets. Does anyone know of plans for YAMJ support?

Harmony has mede8er codes that work, you can use the ones for the 500X2.

I don't think there are any. Who knows what they have in the pipeline though.

I believe Accident (developer behind Eversion) reached out to Mede8er but not sure if that got anywhere.

I have signed up for both the API information and im buying a used 600 to see what i can put together. I need a new project to work on for now. The way the API looks on paper will make it a little challenging and not so easy on user setup maybe, But I will see what I can get to screen

I've tried about a half dozen Blu-ray 3D iso files, and for a couple I'm informed that my equipment is not 3D capable - disturbing because other 3D iso's play just fine. Perhaps more unsettling is that the 600X won't play my own 3D titles (created in Sony Vegas Pro as standard 24p Blu-ray 3D iso files). Burned to disc, these titles play just fine in regular Blu-ray 3D players. The 600X will not play back S3D mp4 files from my JVC 3D camcorder, but that was just going to be a plus. I didn't really expect it would play those. Not much will. If it can't play my own original 3D titles, however, the 600X's usefulness to me is much more limited. Not to mention that it seems like a crap shoot as to whether I'll get the error message that my gear is not 3D capable. rolleyes.gif

So far this is just in my video editing suite, with a Denon 1312 receiver feeding an LG LM7600 3D display. I'll try it later in my dedicated home theater, but so far I'm disappointed.

Any suggestions?
Go into the settings and turn 'BD MENU' to 'OFF'. I had the same issue where it claimed it wasn't a 3D device, etc.

it should be fine after making that change.
Thanks, Jason. I discovered that a few minutes ago. Using other settings in this thread (not sure exactly which ones), the device now plays my original 3D iso files, too, so it's looking better already. biggrin.gif I'm getting flaky results with some iso files, such as stuttering playback, the inability to skip through chapters and strange audio drops. Is there a way to disable defaulting to subtitles? I'll get around to the manual tomorrow. biggrin.gif

Anyway, with the two biggest problems "fixed" I'm a much happier camper. I think it's a keeper.

zombie10k and Joseph (or anyone else who have used the mede8er with a projector): How do you find the picture quality (playback of blurays) of the mede8er?

I've used a number of devices over the years and my ranking purely on picture quality alone is as follow:

best = Oppo 93

very close 2nd = htpc running Jriver (Madvr) or Netgear NeoTV (Sigma 8642)

3rd tier= boxee box (Intel CE4100) + Dvico Tvix6600 ( Realtek 1283) + WDTV (Sigma 8635).

I was hoping to get the new PCH-A400 with the latest Sigma chip but given the general negative feeback I now consider the Mede8er.Just wondering if the newer Realtek chip has improved much?

Anyone compared the Mede8er/Realtek to the Sigma chip of devices like Dune; PCH A|C300; Netgear NeoTV ?

I wouldn't be concerned with the PQ of these devices if viewing on a flat panel display because it's too hard to notice the differences but on a projector it's definitely noticable.
I haven't tried it in my my dedicated room with the projector. Ultimately, it's going to end up in a bedroom with a 64" plasma. I'm using Unraid as my server and having issues in films - stuttering, skipping, dropped audio (DTS HD MA and even Dolby Digital). I don't have these issues with my HTPC via Windows 7 and Unraid. I'm a bit of a network idiot, so I don't know how to configure the 600X and Unraid with NFS. Any help in this area would be appreciated. I've read the manual, but I still need some guidance. There are also several films that won't allow me to skip through chapters - just fast forward. Obviously, I need to get these issues ironed out or it will need to go back. My Micca EP950 had similar issues, but not as severe. I use the 950 in my 3D editing suite.
Joseph. I'm not familiar with Unraid or nfs...but I did come across a review of the Mede8er-1000X3D that has references to nfs issues:

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2012/10/24/review-mede8er-med1000x3d/

Just under Network Performance:

"I was able to play back without issue the 70 Mbps clip via smb and the 110 Mbps clip via nfs..."

"In order to use NFS and get the necessary performance, your media server which is streaming via nfs must support nfs @ 32k. It appears that Windows Home Server supports this (which is why I had no issues) but it looks like the current Synology media players only support nfs @ 8k, resulting in worse performance versus smb"
Synology does support 32K. In Mede8er, under NFS settings, you need to select UDP and 32768.
Thanks, guys. I adjusted NFS settings in the 600X to UDP and 32768, and it helped, but I'm still getting audio dropouts (which usually disappear when I pause and restart the video). Is anyone using this device with Unraid and willing to share settings for both that have Blu-ray 3D iso files playing without hiccups? My device shipped with the latest firmware (ver 1.0.5 IIRC).

I am traveling right now but from memory:

Under unRAID 5.0rc11, the last tab on the main screen has network settings. Click the NFS icon and then enable NFS and apply. Then go to the Shares tab and click the specific share you want to enable NFS. Apply your settings. Restart unRAID (not 100% sure this is necessary but...). On my Mede8er, I left the NFS settings to auto. Now you can browse to the share and try it. I have streamed high bitrate 3D without issues.

As I said, I am not near my servers but this should be enough to get you going. Good luck.

Regards, Peter

Thanks very much, Peter. I haven't upgraded to beta 5 yet, but I did find references to using nfs in the 4+ release in the "shares" tab. I'm on the right track.

Regular Blu-ray plays just fine without NFS, but 3D shows blocking artifacts at just about every transition in some higher bitrate movies. It's not my network, which is gigabit. I should be able to solve the problems now.

UnRAID version 5 is still in beta? eek.gif Hasn't it been that way for a couple of years now?

I've used UnRaid beta versions since it came out, and I haven't had any issues.biggrin.gif
post #383 of 840
I upgraded to Unraid v5rc11 and everything seems to be working fine. It was as easy as usual - no ugly surprises in the array.

I enabled NFS in UnRaid, then rebooted. The 600X now sees my folder when I click "NFS," but it shows no files there. Do I have to enable something else to see the Blu-ray iso files?

Thanks to RobinC for his program Universal Mede8er Jukebox Aggregator Mede8er X3D users can now make Aggregated JukeBoxe's from any compatible scrapers such as My Movies, Y2M etc

I've enabled NFS for every share in Unraid V5rc11. The 600X sees all of them, but it still reports zero files and folders. I'm awaiting approval for my registration at the Mede8er Forum, where I'll post my problems, but any feedback here would still be appreciated. Another issue I'm having with my Unraid Blu-ray share is that navigating the movies is excruciatingly slow. The 600X seems to have pulled in all the movie art automatically, but an action of mine may have set off that process. Is this behavior normal, or should I reset the device and start over? I haven't done much customization yet, so it will be easy to start fresh. I haven't formally run a scraper program yet, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I would recommend for you to make a thread at the Lime Tech forum, and ask for assistance with NFS.

Thanks. I found a thread there where someone is having exactly the same issue with the 600X. smile.gif Apparently, Unraid v5rc5 doesn't exhibit the problem, so I'll try that, then follow that Limetech thread. I appreciate the suggestion.

No problem. Did you run the permission script after updating?
Yes, I ran it. Followed all the Limetech instructions to the letter. As usual, the upgrade went very smoothly. I'm a little reluctant to downgrade all the way to rc5, though, so I'm going to follow the thread for a while and see if they can resolve it. I only have a problem with some very high bitrate Blu-ray iso files so far.
