Mede8er MED600X3D new 3D version to 2013 - Page 15

Okay, I ripped the Monster's Inc (movie only) using MakeMKV. At first it only played 2D, but then when I changed the file name to include 3DSBS, it played in 3D. But I noticed when I pulled up the Mede8er settings for the video, it indicated that 3D Side By Side was enabled (not just '3D' like it usually says for my 3D ISO's). There was no option for just 3D. From what I could tell, the 3D seemed like the true frame packed 3D and not actual side by side, but wanted to make sure.

Yes, it is true frame packed. The whole SBS thing in the Mede8er setting is the mede8er just sending the signal to your tv to switch to 3D mode

the problem heres looks like unraid 5.0rc11 + nfs + mede8er

theres no problems in streaming BD 3D using NFS in Qnap, Synology , thecus, WHS, w7 , w8, unraid rc10 , Microserver N40L, mac etc etc
also all network are not equal, a switch/router can be the problem, a seamless branched title might be causing the problem, theres a few variable that might happend.

in order to identify easily whats the issue is to play same file in external usb , that eliminates the seamless branched titles.

Keep in mind that I was having issues with streaming 2D over SMB, which shouldn't be a problem. Anyhow, after rolling unRaid back to rc10, I got NFS working and the audio dropouts appear to be resolved. I watched about 2 hours of 2D BD ISOs and didn't experience any issues. Haven't tested 3D yet.

I've got the latest UnRaid RC11 beta, and I've tested the following BD ISO's that I've got. 1) I am Legend, 2) Star Wars, and I don't have any issues streaming via SMB to my Dune D1 and PCH-A210.

Newbie here so please be gentle ;-).

Having problems with the 600 accessing a Qnap ts412 over nfs. Was getting failed on the Nfs top level folders when I try to open them. Tryed a few things to set permissions on the box.( GUI not command level as I Haven't looked up command line login and don't have much Nfs tricks to try.) set nfs permission to the 600s ip address an*, with no change still failed comes up. Then set permission to *.*.*.* and now the 600 box hangs when accessing folder requiring power cycle. Anybody have any experience in getting Qnap to work?

Cheers
Woody

I can confirm that the MED600X doesn't seem to have a problem with 3D Blu-ray iso files from 2TB and 3TB USB hard drives. I've tested it with a dozen or so. I heard no audio dropouts and saw little if any video glitches from titles that don't play well at all from Unraid V5rc11 via SMB. I tried several titles with DTS HD MA and high bitrates. Ice Age 3D barely plays at all via SMB, but it plays just fine from hard drive (have to reverse L/R, though). I noticed very minor blocking on a few transitions in Tangled. Imax Dinosaurs Patagonia plays in 2D only for some reason, so it's still a bit glitchy. Overall, though, it's looking good. My Micca EP950 doesn't recognize 3TB drives, so I use it just to play back my own 3D work from a 2TB drive. The 600X is superior.

Just picked up the 600x today, Form factor is decent comparable to tv301 or popbox v8, Remote while a little bulky feels fine will have to use it to see button layout, The huge negative is the power Adapter plugged in it sticks about 4 inches off the wall that is a lot of weight to hang off the socket. Will plug it in now and test some more.

The remote is okay, used it for a little while before programming the Harmony. Biggest issue with it I found was the buttons sometimes stick down which can cause erratic behavior until you realize what's going on.

The 1000X has the better redesigned adapter.

after playing with it for a bit, The youtube app could use some improvement it has its moments the html engine is nice, The upnp portion is slow compared to some other units on the market often just hanging with a blank screen. I watched all of red dawn last night without issue, Only issue is the video timeout period if the drives are spun down on my NAS videos just show a stop sign and kicks you back to menu cleaner way would be just wait x amount of second try again. But that is more of a nitpick.

Does 600x play external subtitle for the 3D ISO files? i.e. avatar.iso, avatar.srt, avatar.smi at the same folder.

Thanks. Canton.

Do you think it's worth to get 600x while I can try alpha firmware for Micca 950 for better 3D play?

if you using usb hard drives and the lack of jukebox dont bother you, i dont see point of upgrading.

but if you streaming BD3D over NFS and like to have jukebox along with some new settings and stuff like deep color off, and soon the ipad/ android remote, or ip control over pc.. i say yes.

I reached out to mede8er with talks about getting yamj HTML skins running on the mede8er without getting to much into it they did not show to much interest. So hopefully this week/weekend I have time to try to punch holes in the system to get it running in a work around fashion. I have a few ideas already but have not had time to mount the squashfs partitions to figure out what the directory scheme looks like or what I have to work with.

Sorry to hear there is lack of interest. Just to put in perspective (as you already know), if Mede8er supported YAMJ that just opens the door to a whole group of potential customers...

I agree. YAMJ would be a big improvement.

My mede8er is sitting here unused simply because of the poor series support. It's a shame, everything else worked so well.

Not sure I understand your comment... Customer support on their forum is great.

He meant series support as in TV Shows. There is no proper support for TV Shows with the Mede8ers yet

Yep - i need TV Series and Movie Boxset support. Once they get that it'll be an awesome little player.

Hey I am new here to dedicated streaming devices. I currently play my BD ISO rips from an Oppo with an attached USB 8 bay hard drive enclosure, but the wife keeps bugging me to get her the ability to select movies by cover art like we had when an HTPC was in the theater, so I started looking at streamers.

My understanding is that ALL streamers/media servers have video processing that basically cannot be defeated. So, unlike my Oppo, I cannot do a "source direct" type of output to my display...I am stuck with the video going through extra processing inside the device.

Is that correct? In other words, how close is the output of the 600x, or even competitors like Dune, etc to a "reference" output like the Oppo? (reference being defined as the Oppo since the Home Theater Secrets site went to all those great lengths to measure the HDMI output of the Oppo and declared it "perfect").

Thanks!

Took delivery on my MED600X3D today. So far smooth dropout free playback of 3D ISO. Very nice.

Did a search and couldn't find a reference to Harmony remote codes for the Mede8er. I'm assuming it's under "Amplifier" in the Harmony device section, but I see no reference to Mede8er of Sanji Electronics. Has anyone successfully programmed it into a Harmony?

I think I set mine up as a PC. Works perfectly.

You mean as a Media Center PC? That's great! I already have that programmed in from when I used a HTPC in the room. I'll just change the input and I should be good to go. Thanks. I'll create some custom buttons.
