Clearaudio Concept Turntable - For Beginners ?

Thread Starter
Just purchased a used Clearaudio Concept from a dealer, 3000 miles away. Been looking to get back into vinyl and was looking for this TT because it is promoted as easy to setup, pre-configured. I already own 3 TT's but they are all old and decided to get a new one. I have never had any issues with setting them up my old TT's from the past.

Well a used deal popped up that grabbed me and changed me from buying new.

Unless it is used by you, than it is configured for who knows what. Before you buy this TT read the instructions. If you need to do any adjustments "contact your local dealer".

I'm sure my local dealer would love me to bring in a used Concept not purchased from them when he has several new for sale. Do not buy this TT used or new nor buy into this is a beginners TT. Setup is non existent.

Buy used and your screwed. Mine is going up on Ebay after the holidays.

Why don't you describe the problem(s). Maybe you can get help, or better inform your audience.

The anti-skate adjustment is not accurately detailed in the manual and I've had issues get accurate tracking force, but otherwise complete setup is detailed in the manual.

Why did you post? It sounds like you gave up without even trying to get forum help...

Don't panic. I think your local dealer may surprise you with how much he's willing to help. It's a $1000+ piece of equipment and its in their interest to make you happy so you can buy more high end gear. Worst case, they'll charge you $50 to set it up, which is peanuts compared to the sticker price.

If you do decide to sell it and get a different model, pro-ject TTs are very easy to set up, particularly at the entry level. The Debut Carbon is a great value and is as close to a turnkey solution as you'll find. It also has lots of upgrade potential (the speedbox and acrylic platter are both worthwhile upgrades) if you find yourself wanting to do a deeper dive.

Also, what old TTs do you have? If they're good models, you may be able to fix them up and end up with a better end product than a new clearaudio. Vintage TT gear is generally better and cheaper than new stuff, but setup and maintenance is a bigger hassle and can be really daunting for a beginner.
