Samsung UN65EH6000FXZA vs. Sony KDL60EX645?

Both are within a couple hundred dollars. Both pictures looked good at Best Buy. This set will be in a rather dark basement home theater. The Sony has smart TV features that the Samsung doesn't, but the Blu ray player should be able to handle those.

Thoughts?

EDIT: looks like this is a closer match: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4837359&type=product&id=1218540191616#tab=specifications

I'm not an expert by any means, but I have been doing a lot of looking around lately and FWIW I think Sony's mid-range models have better picture quality than Samsung's mid-ranges. The Smart features are totally unnecessary though.

Edit: CNet positively reviewed the Sony model and seems to believe it has a better picture than the Samsung model (they compared it to the UNES6500). http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/sony-kdl-46ex645/4505-6482_7-35432722.html

Did you know you can get it for $699 @ Sears?

Is that the price for the 46" version? I'm looking at the 60"
The price is $200 difference.

Sony has 4 HDMI. This is smarttv which I dont care much about. I use extend monitor from my computer and use the wirless kb n mouse.

I do not see much of any Sony on sale for BF for the 60".

The Sony is edge lite. The Sammy is backlite.

Who should I go with? I am about to get a 60" HDTV.

My mistake, that was the price for the 46" version. I've been looking at the 46 myself and skipped over the part where you wanted the 60".

I purchased the KDL46EX645 just yesterday and am pretty pleased with it so far. Keep in mind I've only had a few hours to make these observations, viewing cable HD content (1080i I believe). I attempted to watch something in bluray and that's when I discovered my damn PS3 won't read bluray discs anymore! Anyway, I applied the CNET calibration settings found here. Btw I have this set in my bedroom.

Setup was easy, menus are easy to navigate, and no complaints about the remote or anything else really for that matter. Wifi setup was a breeze during initial setup; and I haven't had a chance to play with the other smart features such as Netflix, Hulu, etc.

I was very satisfied with the picture quality. It wasn't until later at night with all the lights off where I noticed the negatives which I read in some other threads. I noticed flashlighting in the four corners. It wasn't terrible by any means, in fact, I don't think a "normal/non-avs person" would notice it. The only reason I noticed it was because the HBO movie I was watching had the two black bars on the top and bottom. If it were any other picture that filled the screen completely I likely would not have noticed, unless it were a completely dark scene maybe. The blacks aren't too deep and could be better. I'll play with the calibration settings to try and fix those two problem points.

Other than that, I'm a pretty happy camper at this point. I will continue to keep this thread updated with any other findings... (while I fix my broken PS3 mad.gif). Hope some of you find this review helpful.
