I just picked this set up from best buy to replace my 6year old 65" Mitsubishi dlp. Thus far im somewhat a little disappointed. To be fair though I had somewhat calibrated the color w/ the AVShd disc. The main reason I "upgraded" was I wanted to mount the tv to the wall and needed something 120hz over my 60hz on the Mitsu which motion blur was starting to get annoying. The picture on the Mitsu was amazing and always felt it had the best picture of any dlp I had seen and many other lcd's/plasmas from (worked at dish network, so came across many tvs).
Out of the box I set the video Movie mode, Smooth Motion Effect to off, noise reduction to off, noise reduction low, color enhancement off, and every thing else I just didnt mess with. This left me with very toned down colors and what felt like a dim picture, the sharpness was very soft to where it almost felt like I was watching tv w/ my eye contacts out and edges seemed fuzzy, and the motion blur was the same as my 60hz dlp:eek:. So I turned on Smooth Motion Effect and this resulted in some stuttering and almost as if the tv itself would switch between 60hz and 120hz randomly so I turned it back off and feel like I will deal with the motion blur once i learn more about the TV. I set the TV back to standard and got some of the color back, turned up the sharpness to help on the edges. Im watching everything through hdmi (dish network, Xbox360, PS3).
Overall not too thrilled with this set and the picture quality, Im going to mess with it a bit more when I come back from my next work trip and adjust the colors w/ the AVShd disc. Im still not sure as to what to do with the motion blurs, do you guys have any suggestions, tips, advice? As it sits now im pretty disappointed that it cannot hang w/ a 6 year old dlp projection set.
