I thought Costco had a 90 day return policy for TV's.
Yep, I've had this set in my Amazon cart for a few weeks, checking daily, waiting for a pre-super bowl price drop. Amazon sent me an email this morning recommending the set to me, and there it was at $1599. Pulled the trigger right away. Can't wait!
Great price but still not as good as the Black Friday price of $1499.

Ok, so I went out and got a Sharp 70 last night from Best Buy (LC-70LE600U) on sale for $1699. I still have my Vizio e70 bought from Costco this past weekend and comparing the two, only one will stay. So far, the only thing I like about the Sharp is it has deeper blacks. The flesh tones are terrible/blurry looking, the menus are awful & the remote is a POS. The Sharp is very bare-bones and no extras, just a big screen TV, while the Vizio is loaded with extras (Smartv, better menu options, etc). Now I see that I can get Costco to price match my Vizio to $1599 making it $100 less than the Sharp, it's almost a no brainer which set to keep. I'm going to fiddle with the Sharp settings to try and tweak the image but honestly, I'd rather just take it back and get my difference from Costco and be happy. Hope this helps anyone who was looking at the Sharps...I'm disappointed in this one.

Good point. When I bought the TV this morning at full price, the Costco employee mentioned their 30-day price protection policy. If the price drops during the 30 days, you can collect the difference by just showing up with your receipt. I will head back tomorrow and get the $1599 pricing.

But since they have a 90-day return policy on electronics, you can essentially obtain price protection for 90 days. I would suggest first checking at member services to see if they will just issue you a credit for the price drop. But if not, you can buy a new TV and immediately return it, using the original (higher priced) receipt. Thus you collect the price difference. I suppose you might have a problem with this if the TV does not happen to be in stock when you want to do this.

In general, I have always found Costco to be extremely accommodating with these sorts of things. Certainly if I bought this TV from Costco within the last 90 days at a higher price, I would try to get an adjustment.

Right now I'm debating between Costco and Amazon. Same price but Amazon has free delivery and no sales tax. This amounts to about a $210 saving through Amazon. My wife will make the final choice. See, that's the secret to a happy marriage. Let your wife make the choice between your where to get YOUR TV from. It's worked for 44 years.

Buying from costco will get you an extra year warranty plus they have an extended warranty (squaretrade) for 99$ that moves to 5 yrs coverage.

Amazon is probably the better deal. When you check out, they will offer you a 4-year warranty extension for $206. To get the same 5-year total warranty from Costco will add another $99.

I would have bought from Amazon, but they now charge sales tax to CA residents. That was a huge competitive advantage they tossed out.

I imagine we will go with Amazon (white glove delivery is a nice bonus) and get the extended warranty from Costco. Amazon also gives back 2%. I realize that I will lose the one extra year of the maximum warranty if I bought from Costco but I'll be saving $210 and if a $1600 TV craps out on me after 4 years I'll take that as a sign that destiny wants me to buy a new TV, maybe a OLED by then. I see Best Buy has them listed for $1599 on their site now.

I bought from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I realized that I wasn't going to find a way to haul this set back to Costco anyway, so the 90-day return wouldn't do me much good. Amazon matched their current price today, saving me $300. They were kind and prompt in their service this morning. The shipping was quick and easy, and I can still buy the warranty at Costco.

My wife and I always consult on big spending decisions. She trusts my tech knowledge and is thrilled when the best option is the least expensive, as in this case.

I am enjoying this set. I've done a very basic adjustment with the Disney WOW blu-ray, and it looks great.

So I read the posts earlier today about the price drop and pooped in my pants a little bit.

I bought this TV on December 30th at Sams for $1898. I called up to Sams today to see if they did price matching with their competitor s and they said NO. Blah.. that sucks...

We had to go to Sams tonight to pick some things up and there is my TV on sale for $1599. So my wife and I go up to the service counter and ask if we can get the discount. They said they will only do that within 7 days of purchase. So we had them call a manager over. We told him we'll go home and box it up, bring it back, get a refund, then re-buy it if we have to, but that's a pain in the butt for us and completely counter-productive for their own business... it's working against both of us. He agreed and decided to try to go ahead and refund it as if I had it with me and brought it back, then immediately re-purchase it. It took him about 5 minutes and he did! We got like $305 back tonight!

I'm going to start reading this thread from page 1 tomorrow .... but I have one main issue with my current 65" Vizio M650VSE .... Banding!!!

I've got one "Main' question about this TV and I will get tons more inof once I read through this whole thread .....

Is There Any Banding On This TV???

I love the 65" Vizio I have now but the one thing that Kills it for me is the banding ... I read a bunch about this E-Series 60" and haven't heard if this 70" is just the same or not ... but my big issue woudl be ... is this a good overall TV for the price and how are the uniformity issues? ... thing like Banding, Clouding, Flshligting effect and also Ghosting (that was the reason I took back the Sharp TV's cause they were 'Horrible' with ghosting / halor effect on sports etc.

And that bring up another huge question ... my current 65" vizio is very good at not reproducing the Ghosting / Halo effect .....

Any Ghosting / Halo effect around characters on sports etc?

Thanks you so so much for any feedback you can give me on this TV and the 2 main questions I have.

I just saw the price went down on this TV and I am going to be returning my 65" before my 90 days is up and for about $300 more I can get this TV ... but I just gotta make sure they don't have these issues.

Thanks again. smile.gif

Nice! I tried the same thing with Amazon but no joy. The savings would only be $40 so not worth packing it up, shipping it back, etc. But for $300 I sure would!

Falcon: I have no banding on my set. I do recall - don't know if it was this thread or the 60" that someone fixed some banding by pinching the bezel I think. As for ghosting in sports I don't see any in football or hoops. Can't speak to hockey as I don't really watch that much, and baseball hasn't started yet... Personally for the price I don't think you can go wrong.

Hi All,

I purchased my TV at my local Costco on 12/20/12. I walked into said Costco today and presented my receipt and told them I saw that the TV had dropped an additional $300 since I purchased it. (the price in the store today was $1579)

Less than a minute later they had refunded the $300 to my card. No questions, no hesitations, no anything really. I love Costco.

For those wondering where to purchase, you really cant go wrong with Costco. I realize sometimes Amazon might have it cheaper, but Costco has such better (in my opinion) customer support.

So thanks to all who keep watch and report pricing on these forums, I don't always check on-line or local pricing, but I am always checking in here.

And FWIW, still love this TV....no issues at all. The TV was a pretty good deal at 1879, even better at 1579. The money refunded now offsets the $99 I spent on the extended warranty.

I've got a question that I don't think has been asked/discussed yet in this thread (and I have actually read the whole thing).

How do you guys/gals have this tv mounted or set up?
I don't really want to wall mount it in the room I'm putting it in for a couple of reasons. I want a stand with a built in mount. I'd been pointed to this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Whalen-TV-Stand-for-60-Flat-Panels-TVs/20629128?findingMethod=rr by a friend because it's a really hefty stand that's only limited by tv weight (there's even a Walmart employee that reviewed that, that mounted a 70" on it and said it was fine).

Any input is appreciated!

Things that will have to go with the TV:
Receiver
Wii
PS3
strong possibility of HTPC

I have my current Sony 60A3000 sitting on a entertainment stand, 23"HX55"W, with two long shelves the top of which holds the center channel and blu-ray player. The bottom shelf holds my Yamaha receiver and Dish 722 DVR and a small Darbee Darblet. The entire stand is made of smoked glass and chrome rails. I have read where one person mentioned the picture being a little soft. I know how the Darbee has enhanced the detail on my Sony so I assume I wlll get even better results with the Vizio, because it's bigger so benefits will be more visible. The CNET review I just read rates this Vizio above the Sharp 745 (3D) with slightly weaker black levels than the Sharp 640. CNET states that the available apps on the Vizio are exceptional.

The set is down to 1579.99. I purchased mine on 12/12/12. Went to Costco today for a price adjustment. Even tho I was over the 30 day period, they gave me the adjustment anyway without a hassle.
I wonder why Vizio is offering this factory discount. I know it's getting closer to the Superbowl but I don't see any other offers that compare to this one. I do know that they announced several new models for 2013 including 3D versions.

If I happen to get this from Amazon could I buy the extended warranty at Costco for $99 for it? I wasn't' sure if it was ok to just buy the warranty at Costco - even though the TV is bought elsewhere? Costco online is $1579 but has a $49 delivery charge. BUT I have an intro Mastercard that has 0% APR for 15 months, which Costco online allows you to use, I don't think the local Costco accepts anything other than A Express.

Yes you can buy the Squretrade extended warranty from Costco for any new TV purchase ... you just have to make sure you purchase the warranty within 60 days of TV purchase.

And yes they only take AMEX in store.
The total warranty will be for one year less than if you bought the TV from Costco because Costco also doubles the standard factory warranty from one to two years. Still a great deal.
Thought I would share what I've done. I had a crappy walmart TV stand that was way too tall and way to narrow that we were using temporarily with our old 47" Samsung. I bought the Vizio and had it on that stand for a while, which completely blocked my in-wall center channel:

I found this entertainment center which matches the color of our fireplace, cabinets, hardwood, and other stuff in our house, sits low enough to clear the bottom of the TV when mounted BELOW the center channel, and the perfect width of the TV: http://www.wayfair.com/Wildon-Home-%AE-Mali-62-TV-Stand-XIMBQ73-RZF1042.html

I used this in wall power/low voltage cabling solution: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PB7UVA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i03

And this tv mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008GP880/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

I still have some cable management to do, but overall I couldn't be more happy. The entertainment center was sooo easy to put together and all of my components fit perfectly. All of the shelves in the closed cabinets have several large slits in them for ventilation.

My TV is off-center, but on purpose. I wired in the speakers before our house was drywalled and centered them on the wall. The problem is the opposite wall has a large window bay where the couch has to be centered, and that is further to the right than the center of the TV wall. We have a wrap-around couch so most people end up sitting way over on the right side also, so I have to off-center the TV to accommodate. Not ideal, but it just works better and I think the speakers blend well enough into the wall that its not super noticeable unless you're really looking for it. Now for some paint and decorations.....

Sorry for the poor quality photos.

That looks fantastic. The only problem I have in looking for a replacement entertainment center is that they all, including the one I have now, are way deeper than they need to be to hold the deepest component, which would be the receiver. If I could find something that was about 18" deep that would look great with a wall hung TV. Years ago I had a vertical center which I got rid of and have not seen anything like it since. Perfect for wall hung units.

I went with a Sony BDP S390, elatively inexensive and does what it's supposed to. I like the tiny form factor. as you can see, it tucks away under the edge of the TV. New models came out at CES but are not out yet.

I was looking at that same model on best buy. Com earlier. Cool.

Anyone have any issues with Ghosting / Halo Effect?

Some TV's have this effect on sports a lot where you see this weird kinda blur only around say a football player or on a basketball player when the player moves up and down the court.

I had the Sharp 70" and it was 'Horrible' with this weird ghosting effect around the people ... heck I even watched just golf and looking at Tiger Woods just walk through the crowd and down the greens you can see this halo / blur just around his body.

My current 65" Vizio does not have that all ... which I was Very happy about when I got it .... unfortunately it suffers from Major banding issues and is going back this week and being replaced maybe by this 70" model Vizio if it doesn't have these weird issues.

My MAJOR issue is that it has Zero Banding and also has Zero to almost no (cause sometimes you can even see a little little bit ... and I mean just a little bit) Ghosting / Halo Effect whatsoever.

Thanks so much for the info and feedback on this.

My E70 will be delivered tomorrow and I planned to get another Sony for it so I looked at the new 2013 models and they look like the Blackbird spyplanes! It's got a weird angular hump on one side! Operationally it integrates with IOS and Android phones for searches but I never use the smart features anyway. I have Roku and my TV has Youtube so it isn't necessary. I went over to Amazon and ordered another BDP S390 just now

Can you imagine this thing sitting on your entertainment center and having to explain what the hell it is every time a visitor shows up? eek.gif
