Awesome settings there Bama J

I was just about to return this set, but after trying your settings she's a keeper awesome job picture quality is awesome thanks again
post #662 of 1204
I am thinking about buying this TV, I'm just concerned about the sound quality. I do have a surround system but don't use it for everyday TV shows & news, what do you owners think of the built in speakers?
Do they sound good enough for general TV shows?
They are perfectly fine for me for regular everyday tv watching. Much better then the 65" Vizio out right now.
I agree with Faconman. I think the speakers on this TV are better than most. I too have a full 5.1 system but usually for regular TV I use the TV's internal speakers.

I have different picture settings for all my HDMI inputs ... found a good spot for my HDMI 1 which is my Comcast TiVo HD, then HDMI 2 has different picture settings for my WD TV Live Media Player, and so on.

They should stick each time and not change.

Oh great, I'm post 666 eek.gif

FYI - Checked with Vizio Support on this and there is no way to save Advanced Picture Settings for each input as they are for all. For Example: Smooth Motion HIGH for HDMI 1 and Smooth Motion OFF for HDMI 2. Kind of a bummer as I like it ON for games and OFF for TV and movies. Oh well, not a deal breaker by any means.

As per Vizio Chat:

Kayla: Unfortunately, there is not a way to change this. The advanced picture settings are for the overall inputs. There is no way to limit each one to certain settings.

Regular picture settings like Color, Backlight, Contrast, etc can each be set and saved for different inputs, only the Advanced Picture Settings cannot.

Well Sir You Are Correct! Wow, I never noticed that.

Ya thats a bit of a bummer ... I like no smooth motion for my regular cable and low for my WD TV player for movies etc.

Guess since I saw the picture settings not changed I just assumed ... but yep .. change the advanced setting on one input and they change on all.

Thanks for finding this out ... one of these days that would have drove me nuts probably.

Ohh well ... not a huge fan of the smooth motion anymore so it looks like it's just gonna stay off for now on.

Hi. I just bought one of these Sunday and am really happy except for 1 thing, when watching hockey the screen looks streaky & blotchy when panning with a white background. I was wondering if I got a bad tv or if this is just a down side of a huge tv. It looks great watching everything else.

Bought it today. When I got home, my wife mentioned that the cable box was shutting off every 5 minutes or so. Well I started to unpack the Vizio & put it together, went to put the stand on and realized that there was plastic around the base, so I set the stand aside & removed the plastic. Continued to put the stand on and found 1 of the screws went awol, NOWHERE to be found. Had to go to Home Depot to get another screw. Got it setup. As mentioned, the sound from the speakers is fine, my wife would like more base but I think it's ok. The picture is somewhat different from my plasma, sort of washed if brightened, and seems a little dark when I tone down the brightness & backlighting. I will try Bama J's picture settings to see how they look. Got it for 1548 @ Sams club. Sale is over tomorrow (2/8/13) so I figured why not give it a shot. Comcast is coming out tomorrow to replace the DVR, that rebooting of the cable box every 5 - 10 minutes doesn't cut it. Also, I saw what another poster here said about the "movie set effect", interesting. I saw it on Harold & Kumars Christmas. I will update as time goes on.

"Movie Set Effect" aka "Soap Opera Effect" can be turned off by switching all advanced picture settings to "OFF".

I did a little experimenting trying to minimize motion effect and I guess I don't understand what the different settings do. I'm in movie mode and set the Smooth Motion Effect to HIGH. When watching a football fly through the air I saw a very obvious tail on the ball. It was recorded so I switched the Smooth Motion Effect to the OFF position and the tail disappeared. I always thought that the higher the Effect setting the more it would smooth the motion or lessen the tail effect. Does the Movie Mode have anything to do with this? Do any other settings effect motion blur?

Hey Andy - from my experience, turning all the advanced settings to "OFF" eliminates the motion blur (or at least reduces it to where you can't notice it). I found this out when I was watching an animated movie and thought the smoothing effect would make the image better, but it actually made it really blurry when any fast movement hit the screen. Turned off the smoothing and presto, no more blur. Settings like "Game" or "Movie" only affect the basic picture settings like color/contrast/sharpness/etc and doesn't seem to affect the advanced settings.

Thank you. I always thought that turning up the smoothing should make it smooth things more. But I turned it off and it took away the blurring problem. We'll be driving from Phoenix to San Diego in a few weeks. Whale watching for the first time after many trips to your fine city. Gotta show a bunch of Hoosiers the Pacific. Thanks again.

I'm not sure if this is news to anyone, but Vizio just posted this notice on Facebook about the blank screen issue on E601i-A3 and E701i-A3 models: https://vizio.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/962/kw/special%20bulletin

From the website: "A limited number of VIZIO’s E-Series 60” and 70” LED Smart TVs (model numbers E601i-A3 and E701i-A3) may experience a loss of video due to premature failure of a chip assembly sourced from a supplier."

VIZIO recently issued a statement with new information that in a small percentage of units with serial numbers in the ranges of LFTRNWAN3800001 to LFTRNWAN4805300 for Model E601i-A3 and LFTRNXAN4500001 - LFTRNXAN4702936 for Model E701i-A3, users may experience a loss of video on the display although audio can still be heard.

This potential issue appears to occur typically around the first 500 hours of usage or first few months of normal usage and does not present a safety concern. If you have a VIZIO E-Series 60” or 70” TV with a serial number that falls within the ranges of LFTRNWAN3800001 to LFTRNWAN4805300 for Model E601i-A3 and LFTRNXAN4500001 - LFTRNXAN4702936 for Model E701i-A3 and experience a loss of video, please call VIZIO’s Customer Care team toll free at 855-209-4106 or email us at: special.bulletin@vizio.com to directly reach our dedicated service team who will assist in resolving your issue as quickly as possible.

Aside from the small number of units within the serial numbers ranges of LFTRNWAN3800001 - LFTRNWAN4805300 for Model E601i-A3 and LFTRNXAN4500001 - LFTRNXAN4702936 for Model E701i-A3, there are no other VIZIO products that use this component. See our official statement at: https://vizio.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/962/kw/special%20bulletin

I'm glad to see Vizio is being upfront and honest and even explaining what the issue is right on their website.

At least they are admitting to an issue.

Superb customer service. My E60 is affected but my E70 is a 50 so no two year warranty on it!

Guys a bit of a 911 here.

Hoping someone has one still in the box and can lift the box off and take a pic of the set with the foam blocks and stand in place. Long story but I have to pack mine up for return (no performance issues with the set). I got it in late November and its been so long that I can't make heads or tails of the pieces I'm looking at. There are 8 foam blocks plus the bottom cardboard piece it all sits on. Feel like a dunce but I need help.

TIA

Edit: Vizio support was no help. Claim they have no photos or diagrams of the packing

Owner for a couple weeks now, love the set. Used to own 60inch Samsung dlp. Anyway need a new wifi router for the house and I just picked up apple AirPort Extreme. Will I have any problem with the setting up Internet connection to Netflix or will it just pick up signal. Just wondering before I open box . New to this setting up wireless with iPad. Thanks for any help.
I've noticed some pretty bad flash lighting radiating from the lower left and right corners towards the center of the screen. Only on a dark or black screen. It has no adverse effect when watching the TV. Is this what using a roller or soft cloth is supposed to help?

What exactly were you issues you had before you exchanged it?

I did get a good one...which makes,returning it that much tougher frown.gif

Relatively inexpensive though it is/was we have some other pretty big home projects which are taking precedence (20kw generator at the top of the list).

Hoping a new owner can snap a pic or two with the foam blocks in place before totally unpacking it. Ceva is coming Tuesday morning...

Family safety always comes first, hope you are safe from the snow! Wish I could help; I have one in a box but it"s in storage behind a houseful of furniture for the next three weeks.

Thanks. We got around 16" with drifts over 3' in spots. Power blinked a few times but never went out for good. Not bad in the grand scheme of things. And understood about your set being buried. We did a renovation on a prior home and had a couple rooms wall to wall floor to ceiling full of boxes for months. Impossible to extricate anything!

I was messing around with settings & noticed that the closed caption setting in the menu is grayed out. My wife tends to mute commercials because they are usually loud but likes the closed caption to be on when the mute is set but I guess we can't with this TV. Also, I'm disappointed with the lack of options for aspect ratio. I watched a blue ray movie last night that had black bars top & bottom but there was no mode to stretch just vertically, you can stretch width wise only but not vertical only. The zoom setting also cuts off the sides of the picture. I am spoiled from my Philips plasma. They have an automatic mode that senses the black bars and expands only in that direction if it's just top & bottom or just sides with an algorithm that stretches the least at the center of the picture where you're usually focused on & more at the edges. It works great, can't understand why other manufacturers don't do something like that.
I've got a 701 that I just picked up from Costco last week. It has 1.1.4 firmware on it... but I rather expected it to update to 1.1.5 by now. Anyone else?

I am very impressed with the picture quality, but our set has terrible lip sync problems when our cable box outputs dolby digital over HDMI to the TV, which then outputs dolby digital over Toslink to the amp. I have the TV in PCM mode now... and it's in sync but it's only two channels. frown.gif

I sure hope this is fixed in future firmware, because I think losing surround sound is a dealbreaker for me.
