That's why I said "most", not all of AVS.
There's actually quite a few gear-heads in this AVS thread:

The New Vipers are Bad-Ass, Congrats ...I'm a Huge Mopar fan.
I love the sound of a Big V10, (or a well tuned V8)
The Aston Vantage V8's actually sound better (to my ears) than the V-12's and cost a hell of a lot less.
...a slightly used 08' Vantage goes for around $80k http://astonmartincalgary.ca/inventory/?limit=10&page=1&year_range=2007

Pretty decent cars in the last few posts. Not as nice as my 95 Honda Passport. Of course it does not shift into 4th anymore due to a transmission issue and I cant drive it on the highway, but whatever....its still a bad ass ride.
Its worth at least $600 in its current condition......no doubt about it.
Bond could only wish!

New cars, very professionally run, and you get to drive balls-out (don't wreck the cars, please) on a roadcourse and get a free driving lesson to boot.
As far as I am concerned, no trip to Sin City is complete without going out to their track....

What I see happening is that people come here to comment on their software, they go on about any aspect of it that they like, including aspects of plot or characters, what have you, then someone or some element comes along to say that the way you are talking about content gets under my skin, then these elements make up some definition for what this forum is supposed to be about to buttress their case. Though it was anything goes before, now things get clamped down.
All this strikes me as exceedingly bizarre. If someone has a link to "THE RULES" as it pertains to allowable subject matter here, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Curious indeed, curious indeed....

I drove my 2005 Saturn Ion quad coupe to Best Buy on Tuesday to buy Skyfall. I was really impressed by the PQ and AQ ! I've already watched it twice and plan on watching it later today. I just got my copy of the steelbook from Amazon uk so I guess I'll see if it is the same transfer.Glad I didn't have to drive to the UK to buy it !

Yes, very funny (strange) indeed. goes to exactly what I was saying:
So here we have an extended car discussion. Not blu-ray specs, not picture or sound quality, not plot, not characters, but what type of cars people own. Doesn't bother me of course, only that without being able to examine the rules of engagement here for BLU-RAY SOFTWARE, it really has me quite curious how those definitions can include car conversations, but not the type of blu-ray software discussions which pertain to the movie.
Curious indeed, curious indeed....
Sorry for draggin' this discussion OT....

The Blu-ray presentation of Skyfall is nearly perfect, so what's left to say from a technical standpoint? And so far no one has experienced weird glitches or anything. Which is why I don't see a problem discussing some plot elements, characters etc in *this* forum as long as it doesn't end up with a silly discussion and name calling à la Prometheus... It's simply interesting to have a dscussion about a film. A civilized one that is. It's also annoying (sort of) sometimes to post a comment in the film discussion and then wondering "wait, this is a technical detail I should go to the BR software room and mention it as well". Sure there are more annoying things in life, but...just sayin'.
If this forum is only reserved for technical discussion, then the next person who says "great I can't wait for this release I loved the film" will be reported.
The history of the evolution of this forum has been a discussion of the "technical" side of Blu-ray software, which initially pertained to the capability of the format, PQ, SQ, defective disks, and other related topics.
However, over time this became a forum of little value for many of us here.
How many times does it take before the circle arguments over whether a release has a "great" vs. "good" PQ or SQ or a new master was not/was used before a member realizes there may be better uses of their internet time?
Once this forum was hopping with activity, but not anymore.
And perhaps this is why some mods have let many OT conversations go (as long as posts are civil).
I don't not know for certain.....just an observation from my end.

Ooops
My Bad too...
I've been here since 06' and just realized now there was a separate category on AVS for movie comments un-related to specs and disc quality etc
Where straying slightly off topic is not only allowed, it's encouraged
. Guess I just never bothered to scroll that far down the list until just now.
So that's what the bickering's all about (Prometheus etc.)
For Skyfall talk, and Aston Martin, Jaguar etc.... there's a 12 page post here:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1213872/bond-23-skyfall/330
Oh well, since no one is complaining (yet), I guess the closing the barn door now is too late
I just realized (after reading that thread) the DB5 in Skyfall cant possibly be the one Bond won in Casino Royale
...although it "could" have been heavily modified with MI6 gadgets....the Aston in Casino Royale was a left hand drive car, not a RHD like the DB5 from Goldfinger.
Cant wait to re-watch Skyfall again this weekend! Maybe even Goldfinger and CR . (3 of my Top Fav's)
I Totally missed the front Tag reference to the Goldfinger DB5 on the Skyfall Aston too ...face-palm
No modern AM in Skyfall seemed odd, the new One 77 would have been perfect...
but they likely would have to wreck it somewhere in the script before revealing the old DB5.

And as member Morpheo points out, there is a well established imperative to remain civil -- not only the tradition of the site, but codified under TERMS OF SERVICE:
"You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violate of any law." Again, not a problem.
But where are the parameters of the BLU-RAY SOFTWARE forum written up? Where can it be found that that term "software" is described? Does this mean the object which is called software, i.e., the movie on disc? Do we talk only about the shiny disc and its properties? Can we also talk about the movie (only thing that really makes sense to me)? If "software" is the movie, then presumably everything pertaining to an appreciation of the movie is fodder for discussion. Does the term "software" mean only the virtual ones and zeros that make up program encoded on the disc? If that is the case, anything which refers to lines of code, or flow of program, is good -- anything else, such as how that program interacts which electronic gear to produce images and sounds, might well be out?
But of course if you allow picture and sound comments, you are allowing discussion of software "content". Now if there is some dividing line between allowable content and non-allowable, there should be a section of AVS, I would assume heading the section, which explains that. Or perhaps the title of the forum should suggest that, as in: BLU-RAY PICTURE/SOUND QUALITY forum. There used to be a section called DVD MOVIE, CONCERT AND MUSIC DISCUSSION -- I know because this is still what appears in my favorites column. I see now it is modified on the actual site to exclude "DVD", but I would want to go to a place where I can discuss aspects of the blu-ray presentation, if that is what is on my mind. Are those things off-topic over where it is only movies you are supposed to discuss (not format issues per se)?

Yeah, but....

Well, that is my impression quite frankly, and I would like to humbly suggest that just as with their modification of the DVD MOVIE forum to exclude the DVD specificity, AVS makes some clear pronouncement that it is time to upgrade this BLU-RAY SOFTWARE forum to the most common understanding of this apparently brand new technology, blu-ray software (i.e., discussion of the movie which is on the disc is appropriate for discussion)....

Even if something were off topic, I'm afraid I'm just not the one to think that amounts to much -- I've got this handy little feature on my mouse that with just the slightest (almost entirely effortless) flick, allows me to scroll past what is not of use to me... but that may be just me.

But of course if you allow picture and sound comments, you are allowing discussion of software "content". Now if there is some dividing line between allowable content and non-allowable, there should be a section of AVS, I would assume heading the section, which explains that. OK, so you seem to think definitions arose over time out of precedence? In other words, you can't find anywhere where it is explained either? How did it take definition in the first place if there was nothing that ever existed to state what an allowed topic or sub-topic was? But, in any event, when a mod deletes a post for being off topic, this might be simply random, peremptory and without any basis whatsoever except some unidentified person or persons, unaffiliated with the site, don't like certain talk, perhaps can't manage to use their scroll button? What I might say I think is happening: certain folks get some joy out of seeing how they can manipulate the mods to do their bidding, i.e., censor someone who may be threatening to them in some amorphous way which does not violate AVS policy -- don't like the way your opinion stacks up to someone else's? -- get that post deleted on unspecified general and/or undefined "traditional" cause. Does that sound familiar to anyone else?
Perhaps mods may wish to spell out what is and is not allowed?
IMO, this would open a BIG can of worms.
Moderators would be forever inundated with questions about individual threads and posts.
I doubt they would look forward to dealing with that kind of scenario...
For example....
One Forum for Movie, Blu-ray, DVD Content, which would be a catch-all for threads on upcoming movies, its theatrical showing, and its ultimate release to disk and/or stream and/or broadcast.
One Forum for movies on DVD, BD, and/or Streaming and/or TV Broadcast from a technical POV.
One Forum for all things Concerts and Music.
OR however else these interests should be sliced or diced?
Any other ideas out there?????
