Which plasma, 60" <$2,000?

Pretty sure I read every post on this forum about 7 years ago when I made my last TV purchase. Sadly, being married with kids now I can't devote such time for research so I'll have to trust you all cool.gif

I'm looking to replace my 50" Sony KDS-50A2000 LCoS from 2005. It's been a great TV with a fantastic picture, but I want to move to something bigger and put the dinosaur in the basement.

Requirements
Size: Likely 60", unless there is a 65" in my price range that doesn't sacrifice quality or features.
Use: Mostly TV/sports. Some movies (I have an 1st gen Sony blue ray tank) and some Xbox 360. Games vary from football to Halo/CoD. To this point, I don't really care about 3D but it looks like pretty much every set has it now.
Room: Usually dim to dark. One window which is directly behind the TV. No sunlight directly on the set.
Budget: Ideally <$2,000.
Brand: Not brand loyal to anything. Replacing a Sony, also have an LG LCD for the bedroom.

Is the Panasonic GT series $400 better than the ST series?

Well it looks like three mid-tier choices around this price point are:

Samsung PN60E7000
LG 60PM9700
Panasonic TC-P60ST50

It seems like the ST50 is generally rated the best out of those three, with the Samsung close behind followed by the LG. The only drawback is I can't find the ST50 anywhere locally.

Anyone have an opinion on the Samsung versus the Panasonic?

$1899.99 for 60'' Panasonic GT50.

Probably your best option in terms of picture quality.

I just did the same with a KDS-60A2000; replaced it with a Samsung PN60E8000....very satisified.

Went with the TC-P60ST50. Local retailer had it for less than Amazon even. biggrin.gif Thanks

Congrats on your purchase - and finding a local source!

We thoroughly enjoy our 60ST50, and the PQ is Excellent (to sometimes Outstanding!) given a similar source - that is, blu-rays or HDDVDs.

However, would recommend trying to avoid Extended Static Images for the first couple hundred hours, or even longer.

And, to that end, also suggest using some sort of Reasonably Aggressive Aging Routine, whether you prefer Slides, some other Full-Screen content, or a combination of the two (personal preference is a combination).
