Monitor 60's vs pioneers fs52's

Which would be better for home theatre and gaming primarly, I've heard the fs52's are great but the sensitivity makes them less loud then the monitor 60's. I plan to get a sub so the bass output isn't very important.

You should go to Best Buy and listen for yourself. They usually have the Pioneers and Polks right next to each other. The Tsi400 is equivalent to the Monitor 60 and Tsi300 equivalent to the Monitor 50.

Listen to both brands and then decide which sounds better to you.

There is no concensus as to which one is better.

went and listened to both at best buy, the tsi400 was louder then the fs52 that's for sure, turning it up 1/2 way and switching from one to another yielded a pretty decent different in output. The polk tsi400 just didn't have that same clarity as the fs52 however. Does that sound quality differ much between the monitor 60 and 70 from what you've found Afro? . I like how loud they got just thought the pioneers hit the sounds with a more clean respsonse.

Yep, the Polks are louder but the Pioneers sound better to me too. The Tsi400's sound like the Monitor 60's. The Monitor 70's have 4 larger drivers so they are better than the 60's but still not my cup of tea.

It is all personal preference and only yours counts! I had the pioneer tower in an a/b comparison with my Polk m40s and I preferred the polks. Just my opinion...

I know it's primarly subjective but I'm new so Im one of those always want to make sure I go with the best product I can get for the money spent kinda guy.

I could change from the fs52's and the c22 center to monitor 70's and the c2 for $100. Originally I was unsure, but my roommate also made an I think a good point, I probably won't b maxing out the pioneers while gaming or watching a movie(maybe I just say that now?) haha), so the added sound of the polks shouldn't outweigh the quality sound of the pioneers. I just wish my best buy would've had the equivalent to the 70. They only had te klipsch 26 and 28, the tsi 300 and 400 and te fs52's. Hate having that what if feeling! Better get used to it in this though huh? Haha

I agree. It all depends on what you hear and liked better. I was set to buy the Pioneers FS52 X 4, and CS2 plus a sub. I ended up buying the Monitor 70's on sale for $149.99 each and a Klipsch RW-12D sub on sale for $299.99. I am very happy with my purchase, and it sounds awesome for movie and music.

That's one of the things I noticed right away from the Pioneer right away. They sound was way too low compare to the Polks, and the base was almost non-existent. You will definitely need a sub. However, if the Monitor 70's weren't on sale, I would of gone with the Pioneers more due to price than sound.

I really wonder if the best buy setup wasn't right, they 400's sounded really muddy and had no definition. I just fant grasp how a speaker that used to be 800ish a pair cant sound better then a 250 a pair lol. How often do you find yourself using that added sound level from the 70's in everyday tv/movie watching though?

I prefer Pioneer also - And, they do not have a boosted treble, to cover up
an overall dark midrange, like some budget speakers. And, I have tested
them at home, and they do have some bass - and not boosted, to give a
somewhat boomy, mushy type sound.

Also I do not consider the phase 1 Pioneer speakers, in the same league
as the Phase 2 Pioneers.

I guess I should try to explain what I mean by loudness. I meant that the Polk sound better over all volume and bass wise. It doesn't sound loud as obnoxious, but in order to get the Pioneers to sound with the same level of sound, clarity and detail, I had to increase the volume dramatically. Again, this is my personal opinion and experience. I don't think the Monitor 70's are a fair comparison with Pioneers FS52. I believe they are more comparable with Monitor 60's.

That said, it is my personal opinion that no one can go wrong with either Monitor series of Pioneer Phase 2 speakers. They are both excellent at a great price.

It all comes down to design and engineering, and what good designers can do at
any given price point. The Pioneers have some good engineering in them.

I understand that we all have budgets, and the Pioneers are one of the best budget speakers I have heard. Ive heard the Klipsch, polks and pioneers in best buy and by far the pioneers to me had the best overall sound. there are limitations to what a speaker at these prices can do, but IMO, the pioneers are a better speaker overall.

i posted this in another similar thread too. now that you have heard them both (the 70s wont sound that much different than what you heard at BB, other than a lower extension, but im guessing you will be getting a sub anyway) get the one that has the better sound and imaging to your ears. do not buy on loudness at a certain volume, unless you are trying to fill a huge room and are sitting a long way from the speakers. i have the series 1 pioneers, which have the same sensitivity rating as the newer pioneers (that is how "loud" they get), and in my 20x13 foot room, i have not come close to turning my denon 2112 all the way up. it gets loud. the only way loudness should affect your decision is if you think you will turn the volume on the avr all the way up and still want it to be louder. my 02

+1. I've got a open living room / kitchen floor plan. So, I didn't think the Pio's would good to cover that much room specially when we do parties biggrin.gif AGAIN nothing against Pioneers. They are good speaker. I don't want Pioneers owner to get upset about this.
