Pioneer HTP 071 Displaying 'Temp' then turning the volume down

As the title says really!
Just purchased an ex display pioneer htp 071 5.1 system and the reciever/amp keeps coming up with 'temp' on the display then turning the volume down by about 5.
I have the volume set at about 45 which is a good, not overly loud volume and it hold that for about 5 mins then turns it down.
Any ideas if its a setting I can change or a faulty unit?

Is there a maximum volume configuration setting on the receiver? I know mine has a max volume but you can set the receiver to any dB reading below that in increments of 0.5 dB so that if someone accidentally turns the volume up too high it will only go the setting you have configured to protect the speakers (and possibly your ears).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I can't see any mention of a max volume limit setting. I think theres a dodgy sensor in it because it drops the volume every 5ish minutes and comes up with 'temp' which, after re-reading the manual indicates the temp inside has got too high, which doesn't seem right as the unit has is not covered at all.

If the Temp reading (I was hoping that stood for "temporary") actually is a temp sensor then it's doing what it's supposed to do. Turn down the volume so it won't heat up any higher than it already has. Sounds like a failing component (either the sensor or something else that is actually heating above spec and triggering the sensor). Sounds like you either need to fix it or replace it.
