Recommendations for Catty Corner Family Room Setup?

Hey All,

I am finally replacing an OLD Toshiba 55" floor model (don't laugh) with a Samsung 55" LED TV. I'm considering a 2.1 or 3.1 (if there's such a thing) setup; I have 4 speakers including a center leftover from a Klipsch Quintet II set I had in our media room. So, I have a couple of questions:

1)What kind of AV receiver should I consider (wattage, etc.)?
2)What size sub should I consider?
3)Is it feasible to have a 2.1 setup with the TV as the center speaker, or should I try to run all audio through the receiver?

The measurement of the room is ~16.5'x13'.

Any recommendations on setup?

Any help is appreciated.

I have a Samsung 55' led and love it!
What is your budget? That will of course decide the general direction.
Do you want something that will vanish into the room or are some bigger components (like floor standing speakers) acceptable?

Hey Art,

Thanks so much for your reply. I'd like to keep it around $300 if possible (I was thinking $200 for the receiver, $100 for a sub), since I have the speakers and tons of heavy gauge speaker wire already.

Given our son's ages (2 year old twins and a five year old), I'd like to exclude anything that could be knocked over. We got a 3 in 1 tv stand with a mount for that very reason. Ideally, I'd like to wall mount the speakers and get a bottom firing sub to put behind the TV stand to minimize unnecessary "tweaking" from my lil' guys. So to answer your question, I don't need it to vanish, but would want everything to be as secure as possible. Hope that helps.

P.S. My wife and hooked up the Samsung this past weekend...the picture is absolutely incredible.
