It's tough to really find good info on the loudness of a drive
I have an older LG Blu Ray / HD-DVD combo drive, and it is inaudible when used in my Thermaltake Armor+ full tower and secured with screws and anti-vibration grommets. It is a little noisy when I just slide it in the case and use the built in 5.25 "easy-latch" method to secure the drive. It is VERY noisy if I slide it into my nMediaPC 5000 case without securing it
Point being, lot's of hard drive and optical drive noise can be from the case. The case may amplify any vibrations from the drives while they are spinning (case resonance)
Lian Li cases are the worst for resonance
Lots of quiet PC enthusiasts bash components, because of the environment they put them into as opposed to the actual sound level the component produces.
