Premium movie channel disappointment

On a fios package here in northern NJ we get all the premium channels free so i remember seeing almost all these 2011 top 40 $$ movies so not sure what you mean by few blockbusters appearing:

Yes but it is cropped...a shame for a visual effects film. EPIX also has cropped THOR, CAPT AMERICA, SUPER 8, etc, Only SHOWTIME and THE MOVIE CHANNEL show newer movies consistently in the correct OAR widescreen aspect ratio

Showtime/TMC do not have that many newer big studio films.

More recently Starz has been showing OAR.

As for Epix,Paramount scope titles may be cropped (with the exception of Star Trek!) but MGM/UA and Lions Gate titles are OAR

Yeah, I hold on to Epix and usually one other premium. Right now, it's Showtime w/Homeland on, but with their amazingly bad movie library, and Starz showing more OAR, I'm going to give them another look. Just wish Starz would sprinkle some older stuff in occasionally.

Actually, quality-wise, I find Showtime has the better films, generally. Maybe not as many of the big blockbusters, but plenty of films getting their only release in HD via Showtime/TMC. One might consider it the movie channel that IFC should have been. BLACK DEATH, DETACHMENT, GOON, , MR NICE, DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED, WRECKAGE, RED STATE, WHITE IRISH DRINKERS, etc. etc., I haven't even mentioned their documentaries such as LIMELIGHT, TABLOID, and particularly for movie fans, THAT GUY...WHO WAS IN THAT THING. When it comes to movies, I can do without HBO/MAX (as the movies they run can be found on Blu-Ray without cropping). But couldn't do without Showtime. Especially not with a new season of SHAMELESS coming!

I've always loved Showtime for their OAR policy, regardless of how many cinema blockbusters they show. The ones they do show are presented the right way, something HBO certainly can't claim. I've "rewarded" Showtime with a continuous subscription for the last dozen years, even when there's not much on there I want to watch. Can't say that about any other premium channel.

Are Showtime still running pop-ads on their content? That's something HBO never do and something Showtime can't claim. I don't care about OAR if the content is splattered with junk.

It was the reason I cancelled my sub and based on comments in the snipe thread others did too. If they've dropped that practice they might convince me to go back, but if they are still throwing pop-ups on screen telling me Dexter is all new this week and what is coming up next then it makes any attempt to be respectful to OAR a complete joke.

Somehow I don't think advertising during the movie is what the director intended.

I haven't seen one over "Dexter" or "Homeland" this season, but they do run a continuous bug. HBO seems to be the only channel that has resisted this, for which they should be commended.

I have noticed Showtime showing a lot more indie and B movies once EPIX went into play drying up the offerings on Showtime. I actually like this because IFC has become a waste with terrible movie selections and their overlong ad blocks. Not to mention terrible HD quality.

Only problem is COMCAST keeps reducing Showtime HD channels and we are down to 2. And not all of the B movies show up in their On Demand HD section.

HBO is only good to check out Latin American movies on HBO-Signature.
I wish they would offer an English subtitled option for HBO-L whenever they show spanish movies on there.

Starz-Cinema. I wish COMCAST would show this channel in HD. But I did notice their quality of "indie" type movies has dwindled too. Starz seems to offer more european movies than the other pay channels.
