Small Northeast DIY GTG - Saturday, December 15th

Guys,

First off - I realize this is a short notice, but I wanted to extend the offering anyway to this group. A few of us have interest in doing some testing / listening to some DIY sealed setups and possibly a few commercial offerings at my place in a few weeks. I figured I'd throw a thread out there to see if anyone else is interested in attending to listen or to bring some of their own creations to compare. This will be a small group of us in terms of people and equipment, but it should be fun and should allow us plenty of time to give each setup a listen. We'd like to use the same amp, EQ flat, and level match when comparing similar setups whenever possible. There may also be some vendor interest, but that is TBD at that point.

Date/time: Saturday, December 15th. Starting time 10AM at Gorilla's place in Thornton, PA 19373. I will PM address and details to interested parties the week of the event.

Content: Scuba steve demo disc, Various music clips per the choice of the group, sine waves. Perhaps reuse clips from October GTG?

Equipment/Measurements: Mains: CHT SHO-10s, Receiver: Denon 4311ci, EQ: Minidsp, Amps: Various (Below), Measurement: Omnimic

Interested parties:

1. Gorilla83 (Andrew) 4 X Dayton 18 HOs sealed, Crown XLS5000. I also have a EP4000 around for use if anyone is interested.
2) Popalock (Austin) 2 X LMS5400, and FP14K Clone
3) Sibuna
4) Imagic - 4 sump basin 12s and Crown XTi-2002
5) Shifler123 (possible)
6) NathanJ (Nathan)

Thanks guys, should be a good time.

Andrew

I wouldn't mind making the drive at all, and would love to soak it all in, but I have a "mandatory" family Christmas party I need to drink a quart of whiskey for- ummm, I mean attend.

Have fun, all.

Unless you're really interested in a similar type build, I don't know if this would be worth driving 12+ hours round trip. tongue.gif

I'm in!

Can bring Crown XTi-2002 and my el-cheapo MacGyver 'sump basin' subs, now officially a sealed dual-opposed 12" design.
I can't decide if I want to go or not..... If I find I have nothing to do I might drive out last minute.

Edit:

This post is not meant to be mean or sound ungrateful, and Gorilla83 is awesome for opening his house to everyone for these get togethers.

This comment is coming from an over-worked person, who gets told 1 minute before leaving for work on fridays that they need me to come in on the weekend... so yeah theres that.

You guys suck... enough with all these tempting g2g's. Alas, I am still too far away, and I couldnt really fit both XXX18's in my car to bring with my LG anyways.

I'm certain my neighbors feel this way, heh.

Beast - one of these times you will have to make the trip. Maybe we can do a big one again in early spring.

Maybe? Maybe?? I'll show up unannounced if you don't pick a date! Remember, I know where you live. tongue.gif

That's how my wife reacts too. Although, I have to say, after Archaea organized the park GTG to hear the Noesis and some other speakers my wife has been much more understanding. It was good for her to meet other wives that had similar issues with crazy ht/audio addicted husbands.

That was a good move to bring the wives together so they can commiserate. I need to do something like that, although the tough part is selling the idea of a GTG in the first place to them. biggrin.gif At least you guys had the outdoors/family/BBQ thing going on to lure them in. tongue.gif

I would love to attend. It's a tough time of year though. After the new year would be preferable.
It sounds like a blast, no pun intended.

I'm in if a pair of Noesis were to show up biggrin.gif. Have you thought about reaching out to Jeff at JTR?

If you haven't, maybe I'll try to call and ask. I want a set of them but would love to listen first.

Jeff (and the debut of the Noesis) came out to our GTG at my place in October. Not sure if he would have interest in doing another this soon, but you are more than welcome to see. tongue.gif

Just a quick update, I took apart the dual opposed and instead I have (and am bringing) four subs: Each sub is a down-firing single-driver 12" sealed with 5.5 cubic feet of internal volume. All four are still going to be powered by the XTi-2002. Here's one:

Interesting! I think Austin also talked to you about bringing some punishing content? biggrin.gif

Also - I will send the details via PM to anyone on the list. If you're not on the list and would like to be, let me know.
Yup, bringing a laptop with all the synths I use to create bass, plus plenty of music that digs deep & a copy of REW if anybody needs to calibrate with it.

Awesome. Hopefully most of our equipment can go the day unscathed, LOL. biggrin.gif

Andrew,
Let me see what I can do. I might be able to attend. I will let you know later on this week. I have a Christmas party to attend later on that evening.

Man, I wouldn't recomend playing most of imagic's music on any single contender... Most of his music is best played in multiples for sure... Just so damn brutal!
The tracks themselves are rather subdued compared to live, uncompressed sound coming out of a VST synth. With virtual instruments, you can exceed recording level (0db) with impunity, no clipping. That means the entire dynamic range of the audio interface is available - 115db of 'reference' with a 0db noise floor = no problem. It'll be fun.

Hope to see you there. You know where to find us. If we start in the morning, we should be wrapped up by early evening?

Well, maybe we can save that for when we hook up multiples. biggrin.gif

Agreed. I downloaded a bunch of them and have tortured a few subwoofers because of it. This man, the Dub King, has no limits. You two will get along just fine... tongue.gif
